Lake of Menteith fishing report

Lake of Menteith 8th

6ft Water Temperature 18C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.6m.

Temperature has risen 3 degrees C in the last week and clarity remains good. Best areas remain the same (western
drifts and northern drifts), particularly Gateside Bay, Stable point and Stable Point Crannog. Reports of fish in the
Kates Brae and Lochend area have also been received. Successful tactics have been varied; boobies in combination
with smaller flies or dries, may be worth a try. The “in the green house” feel to the weather of the last few days is
captured in the shot below by Paul Barr of Strathblane.

Due to cancellations there are 4 boats available on Saturday and Sunday.

SANA OPEN FINAL: In this year’s SANA Open Final, 25 anglers landed 90

fish (all returned). The new singles champ is Graeme Connolly (pictured left).
Graeme netted 10 fish on a candy booby, Diawl Bachs, and cruncher in the
heronry and dog isle/stable point area. In second place with 9 fish was Chris
Sutherland (he got his mainly on diawls). Third place was Scot Pozzie who also
had 9 fish but lost out by 25mins on the “time of the first fish rule”. First in the
pairs were Ewan Clarke and Graeme Connolly (15 fish). Pairs 2nd were Chris
Sutherland and Graham Steele (14 fish) and Third were Scott Pozie and Ivie
Callison.

BAYNE’S TACKLE (OF CALLANDER) BOAT LEAGUE: Brian

MacKenzie won the heat on 1/8/12 with 7 fish, 2nd A.Kemp (6 fish) and 3rd
R.Robb with 5. The Bayne’s tackle and Taste of the Trossach’s meal voucher went
to Jack Naismith. The 16 anglers netted 44 fish. With 2 more nights to go the
current leader after adjustments is George Whyte with 38 pts. In 2nd place is
J.Fairlie with 42 pts and 3rd – Mark Stephens.

I was saddened to hear today of the passing away of John Ogilvie (pictured above right in 2011), of the Haggis
Angling Club.
