Lake of Menteith fishing report
Scottish club Championships sponsored by Famous Grouse and with additional prices from Active Angling.
Heat no 10; 14 teams, 42 anglers caught 54 fish for 153.5lbs and returned 20. Top team Creiff FF (Bob Veitch,
Jack Hamilton and Ian Bowdler) with 11 fish for 28lbs 8oz. 2nd placed were Caley liners (John Simpson, Brian
Kennedy and Martin Hamilton) with 8 fish for 22lbs 1oz and 3rd were Newtonmearns (Kenny Hunter, Jim
Pringle and Billy Dewar) with 22lbs. These clubs are through to the Semi-final on 21st September.Through to
the Champion of Champions on Friday 12th October are Kenny Hunter of Newton Mearns AC with 5 fish for
13lbs 10oz, 2nd place Craig Masson of Ferrry FF with 5 fish for 12lbs 9oz, 3rd Bob Veitch (Crieff FF), 4th Ian
Bowdler (Crieff) and 5th mick Tait of Kelso. Heaviest fish was 4lbs 11 oz and was caught by Kenny Hunter of
Newtonmearns. It was a tougher night than of late, with a flat calm of a night but there was still a respectable catch
of fish. Roofer Kenny Hunter from Gargunnock netted all five of his fish in Gateside Bay. He was fishing a cat
booby and blob with a midge tip line and latterly changed to a fast glass line. Kenny was broken twice and also
dropped two. Two SANACC Semi-finals were held at the Lake this week. In the first Semi on the 3rd July 50
anglers weighed in 135 fish for 343lbs and returned a further 113 (rod av. = 5). The cut off weight for progression
to the National Fly Fishing Championship Finals was 13lbs 15oz. Brian Mackenzie was top rod, 6 fish ahead
of his nearest rival, and was fishing Sam’s Point, Arnmach Pt and Lochend on dries. In the 2nd heat on the 6th
July. 22 anglers weighed in 58 fish for 173 and returned a further 63 fish (rod av. 5.5) James Litster was 6 fish
ahead of his nearest rival with 18 trout from Sandy Bay and Lochend on dries. Full reports on above at http://

In the Baynes Boat League 23 anglers caught and released 98 fish. Bill Ramage from Tillicoultry was top rod
with 11 from the cages on a floating line and beautifully tied white cat. In the 2nd SANA Open (2nd July) heat
Graham Steele was top rod with 9 fish on a white cat booby – at Gateside.
