2. ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY (Braco) At last the water is cooling down so Dries and lures have been catching plenty of fish with varying retrieves. The Railway Club had an outing with 5 anglers catching 10 fish weighing in at 31lbs 4oz mainly to CDC’s and Hoppers with David Harrington winning with 4 fish for 13lbs on a CDC. Because there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. 3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
This past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been essential for constant results.
The Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions. The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2 consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a sugar cube shipman’s.
The Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing diawl bachs.
The Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed 68 fish for weight of 115lb.
4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) In a week that saw nearly 2 inches of rain fall there were definite signs that the fishing is picking up and the fish are becoming more active again. With around an inch of rain on Friday, the water was slightly coloured on Saturday but has since cleared quickly. Water temperature varied between 13oC and 14oC depending on daily weather conditions with the wind increasing as the week went on. Many of the fish were in the top 3 feet of the water with Golds and Rainbows, sometimes up to 6 or 7 at a time, frequently seen following flies but unless the retrieve was just right they were turning away rather than taking. A few Browns, including 2 at 4lb, and Tigers were caught this week with the area around the bridge being the favourite spot for them. The island and the far bay were the other best places to fish with a good few fish also being taken around the big tree. Fly anglers were having success with Hoppers on the surface, Suspender Buzzers and very small Black Spiders, in addition to the usual lures and nymphs. On the bait pond Maggots and Power Bait were working well.
Charles Findlater, Stirling, 4 for 12lb including 4lb Brown and a Gold, George Dobbie, Glasgow, 4 for 11lb including a Gold, a Brown and a Tiger, Alex Botezatu, Stirling, 2 Golds for 7lb, bigger one at 4lb 8oz, Marius Botezatu, Stirling, 3 for 11lb, plus 4 C&R and Willie McFadyen, Cowie, in two visits, 6 for 13lb 12oz including 2 Golds and a Tiger, plus 2 C&R. Kimin Smith, Plean, 3 for 7lb 8oz including 2 Golds, Ryan Beaton 3 for 7lb 8oz including 2 Golds, Andy Duffin, Cowie, 3 Golds for 7lb, TJ Falloon, Glasgow, 3 for 6lb 8oz including 2 Golds, Kieran Preston, on only his second time fly fishing, 3 for 6lb 8oz from the Meadow Pond, including 2 Golds and Ross Dalziel 3 for 6lb from the Meadow Pond, including 2 Golds. Lloyd Pitcairn, Dunfermline, 2 for 6lb 8oz, Dave Brown, Cowie, a Blue and a Gold from the small ponds for 4lb 8oz, John McLean, fishing from the boat, 4lb Brown, James McLeary caught and released 7 including 4 Golds and 3 Browns and Rab Stoddart caught and released 4. Ian Munro caught and released 4 and Colin Hay caught and released 3.
On the bait pond several anglers landed one fish but doing slightly better was Ross Martin 4 for 9lb including 3 Golds and Martin Germanis, 3 for 6lb including 2 Golds.
