Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 12 August 2019. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 11 August 2019.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Fishing from the bank: Robert Peden from Kelty kept 2fish weighing 5lb released a further 12, Willie Johnson (Bannockburn) 2 fish for 5lb and released 2 and Bobby Paterson from Stirling caught and released 5. Individual boat anglers who did well included Drew Carrie (Kilmarnock) & Alex Keith (Paisley) who kept 10 fish weighing 19lb and Russell McAllister & party kept 11 fish weighing 20lb 14oz.
On the angling club front Falkirk Municipal A/C kept 19 fish weighing 32lb, Grangemouth A/C had 20 fish for 43lb; Dunfermline Rusty Nail A/C 24 fish weighing 50lb and Linlithgow A/C retained 7 fish for 15lb 8oz and released 6. The best catching flies were the Damsel, Kate McLaren, Bibio Hopper, and the Sedge Muddler whilst the best areas were in the Middle to the Far Shore and the Dam Wall.
2. ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY (Braco) On Saturday the Kilsyth Club caught 32 fish for 99lbs 4oz with R Thomson winning with 3 fish for 14lbs 8oz. Charles Grovener from Polmont took 2 fish for 6lbs on a Diawl Bach, Jim Gillespie (Kirkliston) 2 fish for 6lbs 4oz on a Fritz, Peter McLean (Clackmannan) 1 fish for 3lbs 8oz on a Yellow Owl and G Williamson from Rosyth used a Black & Green Fritz to take a brace weighing 6lbs. M Whiting from Muthill took 1 fish for 3lbs 8oz on an Olive Damsel.
Because there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. The Eagle Club from Tillicoultry had 10 fish for 36lbs 8oz with A Beverage having the top bag with 3 fish for 12lbs - best fish 6lbs on a Bloodworm. On Sunday, Alexander Buses had 21 fish for 53lbs 8oz - heaviest basket S Bennie with 4 fish 12lbs - best 4lbs 12oz on a Bright Green Buzzer, Ian Law (Paisley) 3 fish weighing 7bs 8oz on a White Fritz and Alistair Sangster from Blackford used a Damsel to take 2 for 5lbs.

and Hector Wilson from Bannockburn took 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on an Okey Dokey.
3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Water-levels spiked over the weekend and many of the fishing platforms were submerged. However, out with this, water clarity and fishing conditions have oscillated from poor to perfect!
The Boathouse Pool has been rather discoloured but has still produced some decent returns. Kevin Tarrant returned 9 fish including a nice rainbow estimated at 9lbs and Andy Rutherford had a fine short session releasing 8 fish, taken on a mixture of flies.
Jock Leslie and George Birse certainly found the correct methods on the Burnside Pool to return a dozen fish each. Young Connor Wales enjoyed a brief session which produced three fish including a superb rainbow estimated at 15lbs.
There have been some good evening rises on the Bankside Pool with a lot of fish feeding on or near the surface. Jock Leslie certainly read the conditions and got the correct method to return 21 fish on Dries and Buzzers. Powerbait fished about 1.50m deep beneath a float has again produced the best results on the Woodside Pool (any legal method). On Wednesday 18 trout were taken for a total of 30lbs; on Thursday 17 fish were landed for a combined weight of 35lbs and on Sunday 14 fish were taken for a total of 31lbs. The Blawearie Basin (CHILDREN ONLY pool, with all fish released) has had mixed results. The better catches have been taken fairly close to the bank with maggots or sweetcorn on the hook and a steady stream of bait being thrown around the float.
This past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been essential for constant results.
The Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions. The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2 consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a sugar cube shipman’s.
The Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing diawl bachs.
The Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed 68 fish for weight of 115lb.
4. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a quiet week yet again due to the extreme weather conditions but despite this A Jones from Edinburgh had a brace weighing 8lbs on a PTN, A Scott (Edinburgh) 3 – best 5lbs 4oz, Mr. Dan (Edinburgh) 4 on a Viva, Ron Thom (Haddington) 3 on Crunchers and John Thomson from East Linton had 3 on an Egg.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The weather was muggy all week with some thundery showers and heavy downpours. Water temperature rose a little at the start of the week but then dropped to finish the week at 14.5oC. Water clarity remained very good apart from a spell on Friday and Saturday as the result of 2 inches of rain! The fishing was pretty quiet all week with the fish switching on for 15 minutes at a time so many anglers on short permits were missing out on the good times. Fish were to be found at depths anything from 1 foot to 6 feet although most were around 2 feet down. A moderate retrieve worked well for most anglers with a few using a faster retrieve to good effect. A wide variety of flies were working well including Cruncher, Cormorant, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Kate McLaren, Butcher and Buzzer. On the bait pond maggots, mouse tails and blue power bait were the most successful. Again this week, many anglers were catching one or two fish, either keeping them or returning them.
Amongst those doing well was Charles Findlater, Stirling, in two visits, 4 for 10lb 12oz including a Blue, John Philiban, Stirling 3 for 9lb 4oz including a Gold, Andrew Johnston 3 for 7lb 4oz from the Mill Pond including a Gold, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 3 for 7lb including 2 Golds and Mike Chubb, Stirling, 3 for 7lb including a Gold, plus 3 C&R. James Elliott, Stirling, 3 Golds for 6lb 8oz, Andy Tervit, Paisley, 2 for 5lb 8oz including a Gold, Robert White, Falkirk, 2 for 4lb 12oz including a Gold and a Blue, Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 2 Golds for 4lb 4oz, Ian MacLellan 4lb 8oz Tiger and Eddie A’Hara, Glasgow, kept 1 for 3lb 8oz and returned another 3.
On the bait pond Agris Kalns 4 for 8lb 8oz includes 2 Golds, Scott Rixon 3 Golds for 6lb, Dorian Rixon 2 Golds for 4lb and Ross Martin 2 for 4lb including Gold.
The changeable weather this week led to the fish being in different places at different times. The water temperature remained at 15oC all week and water clarity is still excellent. Some days the fish were just below the surface and on other days they were around 2 to 3 feet down. Browns and Tigers were to be found around the Bridge. The area around the big tree and the boat jetty and the Dam were also good spots. On certain days those fishing from boats were doing very well. As is common at this time of year, the fish were sometimes difficult to tempt but a good number are still being caught. Most successful flies included Dancer, Craft-eye Cat, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Olive nymph, Dunkeld, Black Pennell, Hopper and Buzzer. On the bait pond Maggots and green power bait were working best.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) The water temperature is really affecting the fishing at the moment so early morning and evening are best but the water temperature is now on the way down and despite all the fresh water Woodburn is gin clear and great for fishing. The best tactics of late have been Dries in the evening and lures on an intermediate line with the Olive Red Bead Dancer doing really well. Restocking will be Thursday this week with 3 to 6 pounders
Featuring amongst the top catches that included plenty of specimen fish was Ian Blair from Glasgow who had 3 for 6lbs, Andy Young (Ibrox) 9 c/r, John Shaw (Kilsyth) 6 c/r and kept 3 for 13lbs, Mr. Hutton (Glasgow) 5 c/r plus a 4lb 8oz brown and D Morgan from Paisley had 4 c/r including fish of 10 and 12lbs.Stewart Sutherland from Kirkintilloch had 9 c/r, Jim O'Riley (Glasgow) 1 weighing 5lbs 4oz and 3 for 7lbs 12oz, Mr. Spiers 2 for 12lbs 4oz – best 9lbs 8oz, Mick Clinton (Kilsyth) 7 c/r, Rab Macintyre (Kilsyth) 4 c/r and A Lynch from Milton of Campsie had 3 c/r. Mr. Kerr from Glasgow kept 4 for 13lbs, Peter Clark (Kilsyth) 18 c/r, W Wright (Kilsyth) 4 for 14lbs on 2 visits, The 13 14 Club from Stirling caught 15 fish weighing 38lbs and returned a 12lb fish and J Black’s 14 pounder, Jack Naysmith had 4 c/r including fish of 10 and 12lbs and Graham Naysmith had 6 c/r including fish of 8 and 12lbs.
The bait pond continues to fish well with Mr. Greenhill from Kilsyth taking 3 for 6lbs 8oz, Mr. Steel (Glasgow) 3 for 7lbs, Mr. Moti (Glasgow) 4 for 16lbs 8oz – best 7lbs 2oz, Paul Corran 4 for 13lbs 8oz, Mr. Orr (Bearsden) 2 for 5lbs 8oz, and Barry Douglas 2 for 7lbs 8oz. Gordon Bell 3 for 11lbs, Mr. Brown (Glasgow) 1 for 4lbs 2oz, T McDonald (Glasgow) 2 for 5lbs and K Kimmitt from Lennoxtown took 2 for 4lbs 8oz.
