Lake of Menteith 2/5/18
Temperature at 6ft 10C and Secchi disk Water Clarity 2.8m

In the Police Service UK Tri Match involving officers (serving and retired) from all airts and pairts as well as a Navy Contingent and a community representation from Lintrathen, Neilston and Gartmore angling Clubs (56 rods) - 411 fish were caught giving a rod average of 7.3. Anglers measured their first two fish and then recorded the number of fish returned up to a maximum of 12 at which point a time bonus came into operation. Top rod on the day was Barry Robertson from Lintrathen who had caught his 12 fish by 14.45. Tyler Hay and Tam Burnett tied for 2nd top rod. Lintrathen were the top team, followed by Neilston and the Police finished 3rd. Pictured below left is Barry Robertson (on right) receiving his prize from the Ronald McDonald House Chairperson David Watson. The charity provides free adjacent accommodation for parents of sick children in Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Below right (on right) Police angling Secretary Jamie Picken hands over the cheque of £650 collected for Ronald McDonald Trust at the competition.

Tactics on the day varied. The best areas were Gateside, Hotel Bay, International and Kates Brae Bays and Lochend. The prevalent tactics as far as I am aware was floating line or midge tip with buzzers or cormorant types and a booby on the end – and as slow as possible a retrieve whilst at the same time keeping in touch with the flies. People also did well on faster sinking lines with boobies, cats and dancers.

EVENING FISHING has started and a wee reminder to all those interested that the MENTEITH BOAT LEAGUE League kicks off next Wednesday 9TH May 6pm. NEW MEMBERS WELCOME.
