3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Although the weather was still erratic, there has been a hint that spring is now on the doorstep. This has resulted in more fly life on the water and an increase in fish being taken on various patterns of dry flies. On the Boathouse Pool the Abernethy party returned a dozen fish and Mr. Gilmour returned six. Mr. Cochrane took two rainbows for a total of 6lbs and returned a further nine fish including a superb brown trout estimated at 6lbs. Mr. Hill landed four fish for a combined weight of 15lbs and returned one whilst Mr. Cormack had two fish for 10lbs 8oz and released five. Buzzers, Diawl Bachs and dries accounted for most of the fish but lures did take a few. The Burnside Pool was somewhat moody this week but Scott Watson obviously had the correct formula as he returned fourteen fish on catch and release. Ed Valentine also did well releasing nine fish. Tam Costello returned two fish with one of them being a magnificent rainbow estimated at 10lbs and Mr. McCabe took three fish for a total weight of 7lbs 4oz. Most of the fish fell to Buzzers (black or olive) or Nymphs retrieved slowly. Jock Leslie again dominated returns on the Bankside with his best session being sixteen fish released and Scott Watson also did well returning ten. Messrs. Low and Patterson took four fish for a total of 11lbs and Mr. Gibson had three fish for 8lbs 8oz and returned a further three. Various dry fly patterns sorted out the better fish but Buzzers and small lures also did well. On the Woodside Pool (any legal method) Mr. Lee took three rainbows for a combined weight of 7lbs 4oz; Mr. Robertson had three fish for 6lbs and Mr. Morrison took two fish for 5lbs. Those spinning enjoyed the best results but Powerbait fished beneath a float also did well.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) There were some toppers off last week with Tam Wylie from Livingston top of the pile with a brace of 10lb plus rainbows taken on a Cat. Derek Demarco from Edinburgh used a Nomad to take one at 10lbs 8oz, Davy Smith, Dunbar, had one at 8lbs on a Buzzer, B Nicol, Edinburgh 2 on the Diawl Bach best 7lbs and K McFarlane from Edinburgh had 3 on a Yellow Egg – best 8lbs.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) There was some lovely sunny, warm weather this week although there were also cool nights and some days there was a cool easterly wind.   When the sun came out on Saturday so did the Tigers with the anglers from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Dunbartonshire bagging a good few of these cracking fish.   Several Browns were also hooked this week and a couple of 5lb Golds along with the usual top quality Rainbows and Blues.   On different days, there were different hotspots as the fish adapted to the changes in temperature.   These included the island, the Far Bay, around the big tree and at the dam.   The depth that the fish were at also varied, with everything from just below the surface to around 5 feet down seeing fish caught.   Most were taking nymphs and wet flies with the favourite patterns being Montana, Damsel, Hare’s Ear, Cormorant, Buzzer, Bibio, and Kate McLaren. The Fishery is still open 8.00am to 9.00pm every day.
