Lake fishing report by Quint


Lake of Menteith 15/5/18
Temperature at 6ft 13.5C and Secchi disk Water Clarity 4.3m

ITS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE WE HAVE HAD CLARITY THIS GOOD – I almost ran out of measuring rope.!!!! Lots of zooplankton in the water column. The buzzer fishing has really kicked off this week with straight lining or washing line methods working well in the South East Basin and the Butts. Good catches are also being reported from the Malling shore (aka Roman Bay). Earlier in the week the dancer or damsel was the fly of choice as the fish were fry bashing a large shoal of roach in Hotel Bay.
ROAD CLOSURE BETWEEN THE SMIDDY AT BLAIRDRUMMOND AND THORNHILL (A873) FROM MONDAY 21ST MAY FOR 2 WEEKS. Alternative routes via Arnprior or continue on A84 to the petrol station and turn left on B826 to Thornhill.
SCOTTISH POLICE RECREATION ASSOCIATION EAST were out (in force) with 16 boats on Monday 14th and netted a total of 273 fish (killing 90) giving an EXCEEDINGLY GOOD boat average of 17 fish. Secretary Brian Clifton was out at the end of last week and netted this cracker – you won’t see a better tail.


THE SCOTTISH DISABLED NATIONAL organised by the SDFFA took place on Sunday 13th with boats provided FOC by the fisheries and the event orchestrated by Wullie Leach. The 26 anglers killed 46 and returned a further 92 (rod av.5.3). Top rod and 2018 Disabled Champion was Jim Crawford with 18 trout. In 2nd place was Graham Steele with 16 and 3rd was Gary Johnson with 12 fish. Also qualifying to fish in Ireland were Tony Boyce, John Singleton, Colin Broadhead and Robert Chisholm (see picture below_. Andy Smith and David Stewart were given reserve places. Jim Crawford was straight lining FARIO buzzers with the T-SHIRT QUILL BUZZER taking quite a few.
SCOTTISH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 2 Top team on Saturday was Heriot AC with 14 trout (J.McBride 5, Derek Kilgour 5 and Keith Logan 4. Tartan Tyers AC (Andy McAdam, Alan Martin and Scot Aitken) and Bothwell and Blantyre also went through to the semis. 24 anglers netted 72 fish.
