2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Once again weather conditions have varied considerably at Kingennie during the week. However, there have been some excellent catches on dries in amongst the Buzzers, Squirmies and Fabs.
On Saturday the fishery was privileged to host the Scottish National Stillwater Championship Final 2017 (SANA) in which 24 contestants fished a variety of pegs on both the Boathouse and Burnside Pools. Congratulations to the winner, Kevin Andrews and all who qualified for the team and thanks to all who participated in the event in any way whatsoever. An average of 11.90 fish/rod was returned with a variety of methods and patterns proving useful. Best wishes to the team and all associated staff/members for the 2017/18 season.
The Boathouse Pool has generally fished well this last week. Jock Leslie returned 30; Mr. Barrowman returned 27; Mr. Lafferty released 13 and the Ovens party took four fish for 17lbs whilst releasing a further 15. Davie Simpson returned a fine rainbow estimated at 9lbs in amongst his catch of six fish. On the Burnside Pool there were some decent returns on dry flies with George Birse releasing 12. Mr. Gray returned 16 and Mr. Kydd released 9. Buzzers also performed well fished either free line or under a bung. David Ferrell from the USA fished here for the first time and returned four nice rainbows (up to 4lbs 8oz) and a well-proportioned blue – all taken on a Bloodworm Apps. Although numbers of anglers were lower on the Bankside Pool, some excellent fish were caught. Jock Leslie returned 16 including two superb browns of 9lbs 8oz and 6lbs 8oz. Mr. Petrie returned a rainbow estimated at 10lbs in his five fish catch. Nick Soave took five fish for a total of 13lbs. The Martins and Rennies took four fish each for 2.00lbs and both returned a further five – Floating Fry patterns being very effective. Powerbait again took the majority of fish on the Woodside Pool (any legal method). The Henderson group had ten fish for a combined weight of 17lbs whilst Rossie School took four fish for 7lbs 4oz. On the Blawearie Basin (coarse fishery) most anglers enjoyed brisk sport with plenty of perch and roach on maggot or sweetcorn.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Jackie Hay from Haddington had 7 – best 6lbs 12oz on Buzzers, Davy Smith, Dunbar, 9 on a Black Gnat, Mark Anderson, Musselburgh, 10 on Eggs, Roy Bain, Edinburgh, 7 on a Damsel and Paul Harvey from Whitecraigs used Buzzers to take 10. Joe Beattie from Edinburgh had 6 on Buzzers, David Dawson, East Saltoun, 5 on Eggs, Jimmy Anderson, Musselburgh, 6 non Fabs, Kenny Morrison, Edinburgh, 6 on a Spider, Neil Raeburn, Edinburgh, 13 on Buzzers and Al Limardi from Dunbar had 5 on Dries. The Bon Accord AC from Shotts had a good outing taking 14 fish for 42lbs on Rabbits, Dancers and Nomads.

4. SWANSWATER (Stirling) As the wind shifted so did the fish, some days behind the island was best, other days the far bay and the area around the dam were seeing most fish caught.  The fish were generally in the top 3 feet and because of the bright sun they were feeding in an intermittent pattern, this meant anglers had quieter spells whilst waiting for the fish to begin feeding again. Many anglers are reporting fish, especially browns, chasing there flies with some commenting that they “couldn’t retrieve fast enough”. With Buzzers, Alders and Daddy’s now around and the start of the Mayfly hatches the message this week was, if all else fails try a dry fly. This worked for quite a few anglers with Hoppers, Daddy’s, Suspender Buzzer and Sedge all working well along with Snatcher, Buzzer, Kate McLaren, Black Pennell, Cormorant and various other lures. Some exceptional Brown Trout continue to be caught, although the warmer weather has seen fewer featuring in the catches. The fishery will be stocking a ratio of 1 Brown for every 2 Rainbows stocked over the next few months.
Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 13lb 4oz including a Brown, David Aitken, Glasgow, 4 for 11lb 12oz including a 4lb 8oz Gold, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 11lb including a Blue, Robert Smith 4 for 10lb 12oz including 2 Browns and George Kochanek, Tullibody, 4 for 10lb 8oz plus 4 caught and released. John Hay, GDPL club, 4 for 9lb 12oz, Callum Bisset, Kirkintilloch, 3 for 8lb 12oz including 2 Browns, John White, GDPL club, 3 for 8lb 8oz, Stewart Cameron, GDPL club, 3 for 8lb and Malcolm McDonald, GDPL club, 3 for 7lb 12oz. Alan Whitton, Stirling, 3 for 7lb 8oz including a Brown, Donald Williamson, Falkirk, 2 for 6lb 2oz, James Henderson, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 2oz including a Brown, Stephen Murphy, Glasgow, 11 caught and released and Brian Scullion, Glasgow, 8 caught and released. Stephen brown, 7 caught and released and Geoff Gilbert, Isle of Man, 23 caught and released over 4 visits.
