Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 27 February 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 20 February 2017.

1. FRANDY (Glendevon). The fishery opens on the 1st March and the great news is that permit prices are pegged at last year’s level. As far as the early season is concerned boat anglers should find the drift on the South Shore from the Smithscleuch Burn right down to the Dam wall productive and the Damsel, Cats and various small lures are recommended. As far as the bank is concerned Buzzers, the Okey Dokey and again small lures will work well.  A new Facebook Page is up and running so everyone can keep in touch through that.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It turned out to be yet another mixed week with 6 inches of snow on Thursday but despite the water being high at the weekend the fish were still taking in the top half on various lures and Buzzers. Harry Robertson from Perth had 2 for 10lbs on a Green & Black Fritz, Ken Clark, Lochgelly, 3 for 8lbs on Buzzers, Davy Black, Lochgelly, 3 for 7lbs on Buzzers and Ken Bell from Perth caught 2 for 6lbs on a Millennium Bug. Steven Oberg from Bannockburn had 3 fish for 8lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach, Colin Clement, Tyndrum, 4 for 12lbs on a Green Buzzer, Dave Wilkie, Stirling, 2 for 6lbs on a Mille4nium Bug and Greg Lockhart from Dunblane had a nice fish for 5lbs on a College Boy. Mark Brownrigg. From Callander took a couple weighing in at 7lbs 8oz on a Pink Gold Head.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Snow, heavy rain, dirty water, strong winds and fluctuating water temperatures have all been a factor in the fishing this week. Despite this those few anglers who have ventured out have generally had good success. Most productive areas of Swanswater where either the island or at the dam as the water temperatures changed throughout the week, ranging from 7 degrees at the start of the week to 3 degrees after the snow. On the wild windy days the smaller ponds especially the meadow pond has seen lots of fish caught. Lures have been most successful with the best patterns having been black or black and green, with most fish being taken in the top 3 feet.
Ian Whitelaw, Dunipace, 5 for 10lb including 3 from the Meadow Pond, plus 5 C&R, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 11lb including a Blue, plus 5 C&R, Nan Morrison, Stirling, 4 for 9lb 8oz, plus a Brown returned, Andy Tervit, Paisley, 3 for 9lb and Henry Fulton, Greenock, 3 for 8lb 4oz.
