JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 13 February 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 12 February 2017.

1. FRANDY (Glendevon). The fishery is now closed for the 2016 season.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a very quiet week but Ken Morrison from Edinburgh had a couple of very successful outings taking 10 on one visit and 6 on the other using a variety of lures and the Black Rabbit. Rob Frame from Northumberland had 7 on Buzzers, Peter Davidson, Northumberland 6 on Buzzers, Jocky Dyatt, Mayfield, 6 on the Egg Fly and Joe Beattie from Edinburgh had 3 on the Black Rabbit.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been a very quiet week with the cold winds although the expected snow did not materialise. Allan Mitchell from Stirling took 3 fish for 10lbs on a Damsel, Tex from Cornton, 2 for 7lbs on an Ally, B Eadie, Stirling, 3 for 12lbs on a lack & Gold, J Butler, Falkirk 3 for 8lbs 8oz on Buzzers and Jim Kelly from Airdrie used a Green Buzzer to bag 4 for 12lbs. Last but not least Robert Kettles from Perth took 3 fish weighing in at 13lbs.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The past week started wet and ended cold, with a bitter north east wind blowing. The water coloured after the heavy rain on Tuesday and then cleared again quickly.  The water temperature finished the week at 3 degrees Celsius, but despite this the fishing was pretty good most days with the fish only going slightly deeper (around 4 feet) as the week progressed. The island and the channel were still the best areas to fish, with the boats, overflow, roadside and far bay all taking turns to be productive areas. Along with the Golds and Blues still being seen and caught many anglers are once again commenting on the fantastic condition of the new batch of Rainbows being stocked. Top patterns this past week included Cat, Dancer, Humungus, Cormorant, Hairs Ear and occasionally Buzzers
