Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 11 April 2016. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 10 April 2016.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Last week the top taking flies and lures included the Cormorant, Yellow Dancer, Cats Whisker, Okey Dokey and the Bloodworm and now the fish have spread to most areas of the loch.
On the individual front Jim Sheehan & Peter Tong from Bridge of Allan kept 8 fish weighing 17lb, Stuart & Douglas Graham, Perth, 3 fish weighing 6lb 14oz, Andy Dunsmore, Dunfermline, 3 fish weighing 7lb and released a further 3 and Gordon Fairley from Tullibody kept 5 fish weighing 13lb. Mark Paterson from Plean caught and released 10 and Darren & Colin Shepherd from Dundee, between them, caught and released 22.
The Bothwell & Blantyre A/C kept 42 fish weighing 108lb 12oz and released a further 12, Good Companions A/C 22 fish weighing 54lb 14oz, East Kilbride A/C 30 fish weighing 63lb and released a further 39 and the Ferranti A/C kept 25 fish weighing 36lb 8oz.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco). The water has been fishing well with plenty of fish being caught in the two feet with a wide variety of flies. Laura McKenzie from Auchterarder caught 1 fish for 5lbs on a Black & Yellow Buzzer, Allan Harvey,Glasgow, 3 for 8lbs on a Black Fritz, Jim Jardine, Glasgow, 3 for 8lbs 4oz on a Damsel, D Thompson,Valleyfield, 3 for 9lbs 8oz on a Buzzer and R. McKinnon from Dunblane used a Damsel to take 3 fish weighing 9lbs. Harry Graham from Glenrothes took 2 for 8lbs 4oz on an Okey Dokey, Brian Harper, Tullibody, 2 for 7lbs 8oz on an Ally McCoist, Dougie McKendrick, Alva, 2 for 5lbs 8oz on a Hot Head Fritz Sunburst and Andy Airnes from Clackmannan had 3 fish for 8lbs 8oz on a Black Pennell. Hector Wilson from Bannockburn took 3 for 9lbs 12oz on a Coral Fritz and Jack Gibb from Clackmannan bagged a brace weighing 5lbs 8oz on a Green Bug.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) Mark Anderson from Musselburgh had 10 on Blobs – best 14lbs, Steve Rodgers, Edinburgh, 4 for 19lbs on a Damsel, Mattie Devine, Hagston, 16 on the Diawl Bach, John Daly, Edinburgh, 9 on Buzzers and Jackie Hay from Haddington had 1 for 11lbs on a Diawl Bach. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh caught 11 on Buzzers, James Fleming, Elphinstone, 9 on a Cruncher, Derek Demarco, Haddington, 9 on Buzzers and Tommy Dickson from Dunbar used Blobs and Crunchers to catch 16 – best 12lbs 8oz.  

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) With the water temperature rising a little the Tigers and bigger Rainbows are becoming more active and there were some really excellent bags landed.   The fish have been moving about the pond with the Tigers and Browns generally in the area around the bridge and the Rainbows and Blues to be found upwind.The water remained clear all week and conditions were very good.   Most of the fish were caught in the top 3 feet of the water with Tigers and Browns being taken nearer the surface.   Browns were taking dries off the surface or small wets just under.   A moderate retrieve was working well and fish were actively following flies.Anglers fishing Buzzers and Bloodworm were also having some success, but only if fished near the surface. Favourite patterns included Hopper, CDC, Yellow Owl, Black Beetle, Kate McLaren, Buzzer, Damsel, Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, and Ally McCoist. The Fishery is now open 8.00am to 8.30pm every day.
Donald McMurchy, Fallin, had an excellent week with three visits, taking 15 for 51lb 8oz including 5lb 6oz Tiger, 5lb Rainbow and a Blue, Robert Ramage, Renton, 5 for 16lb 12oz including 6lb 8oz Rainbow and a Brown plus 6 caught and released, Graeme Murdoch, Burntisland, 6lb Blue, Martin Stewart, Glasgow, 2 Tigers for 10lb 8oz, bigger one at 5lb 8oz and Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 3 for 13lb including 5lb Rainbow. Bob Garvie, Lennoxtown, 5lb Rainbow, Alex Wilkie, Coatbridge, 5 for 18lb 12oz, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 16lb 12oz including a Brown from the Millpond, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 16lb including 2 Blues, plus 3 caught and released and Brian MacIntosh, Banknock, 4 for 12lb 12oz including 2 Browns. Brian MacIntosh jnr., Banknock, 4 for 12lb 10oz, Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, 3 for 10lb 13oz including 4lb Rainbow and a Blue, D MacKinnon, 3 for 9lb 12oz including a Blue and Gregor McGregor, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb 10oz. Tam Baillie, Kincardine, 3 for 9lb including a Blue and a Brown plus 2 caught and released, Willie Carr, Kilsyth, 3 for 9 plus 4 caught and released, Nan Morrison, Stirling, 3 Browns for 6lb 8oz, Stevie Johnston, Airdrie, 2 for 8lb 8oz and Ronnie Cadona, Glasgow, 2 for 7lb 12oz. Billy Keane, Ayr, caught and released 14 and  Gary Ross, Stirling, caught and released 11.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) There was some terrific sport last week with the newly introduced tiger trout adding to the excitement. The best catching flies included various Buzzers, the Okey Dokey, Ally McCoist, Yellow Dancer and the Damsel Nymph. Included in the best baskets was Scott Park from Helensburgh with 3 for 9lb, B Robertson, Stirling, 3 for 10lb, Sam Smith, Edinburgh, 3 for 15lbs .6oz – best 5lbs 2oz and Paul Haughie from Stirling had one for 10lbs. Brian Mellon from Stirling 3 took 1 for 10lbs, Mr McLaughlin, Milton of Campsie, 4 for 9lbs 8oz, D. Kerr, Glasgow, 4 weighing 17lb  - best 7lbs 8oz plus 12 returned, Liam Morrison, Glasgow, 3 for 9lb, Ian Crilley Glasgow 1 rainbow and 1blue for 6lbs, Dean McGoldrick,  Kilsyth and K. Kerr from Glasgow took 10 on C/R. Peter Clark from Kilsyth had 20 on C+R and Billy Patton from Kilsyth took 3 for 9lbs 5oz.
