Fishing Overview
Clarity is still very good and (Secchi disk 3m) and is the best it has been all year. 810 fish have been stocked on Monday and Tuesday of this week and the reports range from “it didn’t need stocked” and “slaughtering them” to “alright” and “not good” – from the four boats I have just spoken to. In my humble opinion it would appear to be fishing very well on a variety of lines and flies depending on the brightness and wind factors. I have heard that “damsels are just the job and pull them fast”, and I have heard that small sparse wets were working, and also that the Duck fly still seems to be in vogue and dries (olive shipman) are also doing well – as well as the Di3. Below Angler Iain Graham got this 8lb 9oz cracker on a “sparse” cormorant. Colin Riach and Jimmy Millar from Edinburgh enticed 12 tricky bows from the butts on Sunday with wee dries (Autumnal Onset Inset; photo of the Butts by C.Riach). Plenty of big slabs in the bags. Next week there are road closures at the east end of Thornhill Main St (A873) but the planned closure on the B822 Thornhill Kippen is apparently cancelled (as the bridge is dodgy) so best to avoid this area all together and go via Arnprior or Callander.Displaying octlump.jpg

The rope will certainly be removed this Autumn from Gateside Bay and the pens pushed ashore. Exact date TBC but around the 22nd or 23rd October.
