The top taking list of flies included the edge Muddler, Black Hopper, Bibio Hopper. Kate McLaren and various Snatchers whilst the best fishing area was at the top end of the dog leg and on the north shore.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry). The weather during the week varied greatly but those who adapted to the conditions were rewarded with some excellent sport. The extra water has been welcome and the pools are now in superb form. Once again the Osprey visited on several occasions, producing some wonderful angling agility. The Boathouse Pool was in top form with most anglers catching fish. Liam Kirk took the honours with a superb rainbow of 12lbs included in a ten fish catch/release total. Mr. Watson landed a rainbow weighing 10lbs and several other decent fish were returned during the week. Buzzers, dries and lures all performed well. The deep Burnside Pool has taken a lot of angling pressure recently and catches have slowed slightly. However, some excellent fish have been taken including a lovely rainbow estimated at 12lbs and released by John Barr. Again buzzers, dries and lures have all proved successful. There has been plenty of surface activity in the Bankside Pool but fish have been somewhat more difficult to catch as there has been so much natural food in the water. Mr. Smith took two fish for 6lbs and returned a further 11. Frank Sherriff had a couple of hours fishing dry fly patterns and returned 8. Sugar-cubed Shipman’s and Sedge patterns have brought the most success. The any legal method pool, the Woodside, has responded particularly well to Powerbait again, although sweetcorn and maggots have also produced fish. On Saturday 38 anglers took 58 fish for a total of 98lbs.
3. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) This week the fish have been mainly getting caught just under the surface but with such an abundance of natural feeding, they can be very fussy, with small flies and mine lures being the favoured flies.
Tony Wensley from Blair Atholl took 3 fish for 14lbs – best 9lbs on a Mini Damsel, Ken Clark, Lochgelly, 3 for 12lbs on Buzzers, Davy Black, Lochgelly, 3 for 10lbs 4oz on Buzzers, John Barlow, Glasgow, 3 for 10lbs on a Yellow Dancer and Ronnie Stanovich from Glasgow caught 3 for 12lbs on a Hare’s Ear. 5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The biggest fish of the year to date was landed this week, a cracking 9lb Blue landed by Nan Morrison, who once again tops the catch returns! This beauty was taken on a Sedgehog, as were the other three fish Nan landed this week. It was taken from the bridge area which has proved to be very productive this week with, amongst others, two lovely Browns and a good Tiger also coming out there. The two Browns showed the wide variety in coloration that these fish can have and both were beautifully shaped and had full fins and big tails. Throughout the week the fish were in the top 2 feet of the water and still wanting to chase. Plenty were being seen feeding on the surface although some anglers were finding it difficult to “match the hatch”. Favourite patterns included Dancer, Viva, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Hopper, Sedgehog, various nymphs and buzzers. The most productive areas were around the bridge and the island.
