ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday02 February 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 01 February 2015.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL SPRING 2015

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The past week at Kingennie has seen some really wintery weather which has deterred a few anglers but those that braved the conditions were rewarded with some great returns. None more so than regular angler Mr Hugh Bairner who fished the Boathouse Pool on Saturday, after weighing in a bag of 4 fish for 19lb 1oz with the largest being a 10lb 4oz rainbow he went on to catch and release a further 29 fish with half a dozen or so being around the 4/6lb. After that he went onto the Burnside Pool and returned another 12. Nearly all of his fish fell to a very sparse homemade Yellow Dancer on an intermediate line with a mixed retrieve. That left him with a total of 45 fish for the day which is an incredible result by anyone’s standards.  Mr Sheppard had a productive afternoon on Sunday landing 10 fish on a mix of small Spiders and Buzzers. Mr Holmes had 2 for 8lb 9oz with the largest a 6lb 2oz blue caught on a Blob under the bung. The Bankside has had the most problems with the ice but is now clear again, the fish still seem to be shoaling up so if you can get on the fish there is usually a few to be caught. Mr Barlow had fantastic 2 hours landing 13 fish on a mix of Claret and Black Buzzers. Mr Whyte did well after 2 hours without a bite moved round to the windward bank and went on to land 11 fish in 2 hours on a Damsel on a slow glass, the biggest estimated at around 6lb. The Burnside has as usual been the busiest pond and has continued to do a lot of fish Mr Simpson was down 2 times this week and managed more than 10 fish on each visit while fishing Squirmies under at a bung. Young Robert Gibson continued on his fine run of form taking 12 fish on Bloodworms on a Di 3. Mr Woods had 4 fish for 10lb 4oz and put back another 7 on Buzzers. The Woodside has seen the fish spread out a bit more and has seen the pond fishing really well, young angler Mr Wales had the biggest fish of the year so far with a 3lb 14oz rainbow taken on a spinner. Mr Bell managed 4 fish for 7lb on Powerbait and Mr Stevens had 4 fish for 6lb 14oz on sweet corn.
Kingennie is once again holding a qualifying round for the SANA Stillwater team on the 8th of march for the opportunity to qualify and fish for Scotland, there are still places available so please call the shop on 01382 350777/350213 for more information.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It was another very cold week with the water freezing again when the temperature fell to -6.5 degrees. It was free of ice at the weekend because of the wind but it can change again overnight so it is very much a matter of taking each day as it comes. It is difficult to predict the weather so the advice is to phone 01764 68228 in the morning to find out if it is clear.         l

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was another cold week with snow falling midweek.   The Fishery remained open in spite of the snow, frost and freezing winds.   Despite the cold weather plenty fish were landed with many of them being taken only a couple of feet from the surface.   On Sunday, the most successful tactic was fishing a Buzzer under an indicator around 3 feet down, but on other days the fish were more active and taking Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, Bloodworm, Dancer, Tadpole and a variety of other small lures.   The fish were well spread out round the pond with the island, channel, roadside and far bay the most productive areas at different times.   With frost forecast for the coming week, the aerators will be in action when needed.
