Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
JIM BOYD
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 26 January 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 25 January 2015.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL SPRING 2015
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Once again it was a very quiet week due to the continuing bad weather. Andrew Peters from Edinburgh had the honour of recording the biggest fish last week, a 7lb 8oz specimen taken on a Dancer. Also doing well was Jimmy Waters from Gorebridge with 3 on a Black Tadpole, George Boag, Edinburgh, 3 on a Pink Bloodworm, Andrew Shields, Penicuik, 3 on Buzzers and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 2 on Buzzers.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The fishery has now reopened after two weeks of being closed due to heavy snow and hard frosts. A few anglers managed out at the weekend when fish were being caught on a wide variety of flies and lures.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The Fishery remained open all week despite the cold weather with the aerators keeping the ponds virtually ice-free. The fishing was slow at the start of the week but things picked up towards the weekend as a result of a slight rise in air and water temperature. The fish were at various depths with a few seen turning on the surface, but most taking around 4 feet down. Favourite patterns included Dancer, Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Bloodworm, Diawl Bach, Cormorant, Kate McLaren, and one angler even had success on a dry Daddy Long Legs on the Meadow Pond. There were some excellent bags this week with a large number of Rainbows and Blues around 4lb to 4lb 8oz being taken.
Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 for 18lb, biggest one at 4lb 8oz, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 14lb 12oz, Nigel Muckle, Mid Calder, 4 for 15lb 8oz including 4lb 8oz Rainbow and 2 Blues, bigger one at 4lb 8oz and Allan Laing, East Kilbride, 4 for 14lb including 2 Blues. Michael Goodwillie, Prestwick, 4 for 13lb 8oz including a Blue, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 12lb 12oz including 2 Blues, Eddie Canon, Falkirk, 3 for 12lb 8oz, Joe Hunter, Alva, 3 for 11lb including a Blue and Glen Anderson, Haggs, 3 for 11lb. Willie Nyguist, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 8oz, Chris Kerr, East Kilbride, 3 for 10lb 12oz including 2 Blues, Charles Devine, Stirling, 3 for 10lb and Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, 3 for 9lb 8oz.
