Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 19 January 2015. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 18 January 2015.

There isn’t a lot to report this week as the weather extremes of gales, snow and very low temperatures has resulted in a lot of fisheries being unable to open. Hopefully with the forecast pointing towards much milder weather at the back end of this week things should be a bit better next week. Fingers and everything else crossed!

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL SPRING 2015

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Due to the inclement weather the fishery was extremely quiet but those who braved the wintry elements had some good sport. Jocky Dyatt from Bonnybridge had 9 fish on a Hare’s Ear and an Egg Fly, George Boag, Edinburgh, 6 on Apps, Mick Mulgrew, Danderhall, 3 on Apps and Tommy Dickson from Dunbar had 7 – best 9lbs on a Pink Apps. Chris McGhee from Musselburgh used an Apps Bloodworm to take a brace with the biggest tipping the scales at 10lbs 8oz.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) NO FISHERY REPORT THIS WEEK

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Heavy rain, strong winds, snow showers and freezing temperatures meant that there were not a lot of anglers out at Swanswater this week. However those who did brave the elements were well rewarded with some excellent fishing and good catches, despite the weather.   At the weekend the aerators were on overnight and did an excellent job in keeping the main part of Swanswater and the Millpond and Meadow Pond all ice free.   At the weekend the fish were around 3 to 4 feet down and taking a variety of flies fished with a slow retrieve. Favourite patterns included Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer and Bloodworm. Throughout the week anglers were amazed by the number of fish seen rising and feeding on something on the surface of all the ponds. With the aerators running the Fishery is planning to remain open every day from 8.00am to 4.30pm during the current cold spell.   If you have any queries about weather or fishing conditions, please contact the Fishery by phone, email or Facebook.
Amongst the brave anglers this week, those with the best bags were Iain Whitelaw, Dunipace, 5 for 15lb plus 3 caught and released, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 15lb including a Blue, plus 2 caught and released, Bill Stanfield 5 for 11lb 12oz from the Meadow Pond including 2 Greens and John Mooney, Queenzieburn, 4 for 10lb 12oz from the boat. Willie Walker, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb 8oz, Willie Nyguist, Stirling, 2 for 6lb 8oz, John Relf, Falkirk, 2 for 5lb 12oz, M Bradley, Arrochar, 6 caught and released and C Parsons, Arrochar, 5 caught and released.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
