ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

JIM BOYD

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 15 December 2014. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 22 December 2014.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL SPRING 2015

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) It might be winter but the trout just keep on biting and some of the best catches of the year have been caught in the last week. The water is still very clear if not a little bit cold. The Boathouse has continued to produce some big fish as well as big numbers of fish. Mr Shepherd returned fish of around 9lb and 7lb as well as 9 others, Mr Watson had 13 with 2 fish around 6-8lb, Mr Simpson returned 12 with one of around 8lb and one of 5lb. Various lures have been working but one of the stand out flies have been the Squirmy Worm which seems to been taking the trout fishing world by storm. The Bankside has also been fishing really well - most of the fish have been in the bays in the shallow water. Mr Birse took 14 fish on a Damsel and a few days before he took 23 on the same fly. The Ferry Fly Dressers were here on Sunday and managed to all take their bag limit with 30 fish for 77lb. The best result of the week has to be to the rod of Mr Barlow where in the space of 3 hours managed to land 30 fish while fishing dries which for the time of year is spectacular. Mr Duncan had the largest of the week with a 7lb 4oz rainbow. The Burnside is still doing a lot of fish and they are really spread out and the best method of catching them has been the bung with various flies such as Blobs, Eggs, Buzzers, Bloodworms, Squirmies and Cat Bugs. Mr Cheetham had 14 fish on a mixture of lures with the largest around 3lb
Mr Jones had a couple of great sessions landing 30 fish in a couple of trips fishing Buzzers. The Woodside as always is producing most of its fish to Powerbait around the inlets, Mr Wilson and his son had 6 fish for 10lb 10oz.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian)  It was a quiet week but those who turned up did well with Alec Rowley from Dalkeith leading the catch and release list with 21 fish on a mini lure. Tommy Dickson from Dunbar had 14 on an Apps Bloodworm, Neil Keillor, Dunbar 10 on a Cat and a Cormorant, Eddie Peden, Pentcaitland, 8 on a Blood worm and Chris McGhee from Musselburgh took 6 on a Bloodworm and an Egg fly. J Angus from Alnwick kept 3 fish weighing 13lbs 8oz on a Dancer and I McEwan, Alnwick, used a Zonker to take a fine brace weighing 10lbs.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) Since the water has cleared of ice the fish have been getting caught up to 3 -4 feet down although they are still showing on the top.    With the changes in temperature every day anglers just have to take each day at a time when the difference can be 10 degrees from one day to the next. The fishery will be only closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day and will be open over the rest of the holiday's weather permitting. Elizabeth would like to wish all anglers a Merry Christmas and a Good and Healthy New Year.
Ronnie Stanovich from Glasgow had 3 fish for 10lbs 8oz on a Black Lure, Joe Hunter, Tullibody (2 visits), 4 fish weighing 13lbs 4oz on a Cat, M. Ezz,                              Armadale, 2 for 8lbs on a Bug and D. Ezz, Armadale, 2 for 5lbs on a Bug. Hector Wilson from Bannockburn caught 3 for 8lbs 12oz on a Black & Green Fritz, Mervyn Gough, Stirling, 3 for 10lbs on a Cat, Hamish Carmichael, Tullibody, 2 for 5lbs on a Green Bug and Jack Gibb from Clackmannan used a Green Bug to take a brace weighing 8lbs 8oz. Allan Mitchell from Stirling took 3 fish for 8lbs on a Damsel.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was a very changeable week, weather-wise, with some very wet and windy days and others when it was frosty first thing then milder and breezy later in the day.   Despite the changing conditions the fish are still in the top 3 to 4 feet and were even moving on the surface some days.   The island and the far bay were the best spots for most of the week although the roadside was also productive on some afternoons.    Most fish were taken on small lures with some also taking buzzers.   When it was mild and calm fish were even being caught on dry flies in the sheltered areas. The Fishery is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and 1st January.    There is a competition on Swanswater on Saturday 27th December, 8.30 for 9.00am start, with the two small ponds open as normal that day. Alasdair, Morna, Ian and Alan would like to wish all our anglers a very Merry Christmas.
