Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 06 October 2014. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 05 October 2014.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) On the individual front Gerry Grattan from Kincardine kept 4 fish weighing 8lb 8oz and released 7, Andy Hunter, Alloa, fishing on a sporting ticket caught and released 8, Kenny MacMillan, Perth, 7 fish for 14lb, David MacIntosh & Eck Ewart, Forfar. 6 fish weighing 12lb and released 4 and Jim Donnelly from Tullibody kept 2 fish weighing 5lb and released 18. Robert Westwater from Glasgow took 2 fish weighing 4lb and released 6, Peter McNiven, Auchterarder, kept 3 fish weighing 6lb, Dave Cosgrove, Dalgety Bay, caught and released 8, Andy McCreary, Glenrothes, 4 fish for 8lb and released 3 and Kevin Duff from Alloa took 3 fish weighing 6lb.
IBM Freshwater A/C kept 75 fish weighing 145lb – heaviest 5lb 8oz and 4lb 2oz, Ferranti A/C 13 fish weighing 26lb, Middleton F/F caught 17 fish weighing 36lb and Bangour FFC kept 31 fish weighing 60lb.
The Bibio Hopper, Cats Whisker, Sedge Muddler and the Damsel Nymph are all catching well whilst all areas of the fishery are producing good baskets.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) There were some nice specimens taken off last week with J Perry from Edinburgh catching 5 – best 8lbs on a Bloodworm, Jim McKenzie, Prestonpans, 11 – best 7lbs 8oz on Buzzers and Joe Beattie from Edinburgh used lures to take 3 with the heaviest tipping the scales at 7lbs. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 12 on lures and buzzers, Tommy Dickson, Dunbar 8 on the Diawl Bach, Derek Powell, Haddington, 5 on Buzzers and John Thomson from East Linton took 5 on the Diawl Bach.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been another good week for fishing and the rain and the colder weather has made the fish much more active. The fish are being caught on the top and about a foot down with a wide variety of dries and lures.
The Bridge Inn FC from Linlithgow caught 12 fish for 36lbs 8oz with M Nelson having the heaviest basket for 14lbs 8oz on a Diawl Bach. Joseph Thain Jnr from Callander took 5 fish for 21lbs on a Black Nomad, Joseph Thain Snr, Callander, 5 for 14lbs 8oz on a Black Buzzer, Harry Isherwood, Cumbernauld, 2 for 8lbs - best 5lbs on an Ally McCoist and Harry Graham from Glenrothes caught 3 fish weighing 8lbs on a Diawl Bach. Mark Brownrigg from Callander had 3 for 11lbs on a Black & Yellow Dancer, W. Davies, Cumbernauld, 4 fish for 13lbs on Buzzers, A Hoggan, Bonnybridge, 2 for 8lbs 8oz on an Olive Damsel, Ryan Sinclair, Ballieston, 3 for 12lbs 4oz on a Black & Green Nomad and Brian Logan from Alloa used a Buzzer to catch a brace weighing 10bs 4oz – best fish 6lbs 8oz. Jim Prentice from Tullibody took a brace for 8lbs on the dry fly.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The cooler nights the past week have led to a 3 degree drop in water temperature, resulting in the fish becoming very active. A challenging but rewarding weeks fishing saw the fish remain in the top 2 to 3 feet of water and very wide spread around the main area of Swanswater. A large number of Tigers, largest 4lb 8oz, featured in the catch returns, with several still being taken in and around the burn area. Various methods proved to be working well, with fish being taken on buzzers fished static, while others were being taken on lures fished with a very fast retrieve. Top patterns this week were Dancer, damsel, Cat, Zonker, Kate McLaren, Bibio and Buzzer. Diawl Bach and PTN worked especially well on the Meadow Pond.
Peter O’Brien, Camelon, 5 for 14lb 12oz including 2 Blues and a Tiger, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 13lb 10oz including a Blue and a Brown, Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, in 2 visits, 5 for 15lb including 2 Blues, and Frank Barr, Falkirk, in 2 visits, 10 for 24 lb 12oz including 3 Blues and a Brown. Willie Cherry, Cumbernauld, 4 for 14lb 10oz including a Tiger, William Weir, Stirling, 4 for 12lb 12oz including 2 Blues and a Tiger, Eddie McKillop and son Eddie shared 4 for 12lb 8oz including a Blue and a Tiger and Aaron Kirkwood, Stirling, 4 for 12lb including a Blue and 3 Tigers. Kenny Whitehead, Helensburgh, 4 for 12lb including 3 Blues, Jordan Zeigler, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 2 tigers, Jim Dargie, Kirkmichael, 3 for 10lb including 2 Blues and a Tiger and Andy Gibson, Bonnybridge, 3 Tigers for 8lb 8oz. Stuart Malcolm Snr and Jnr and Kenny Forrest, Glasgow, shared 8 for 23lb 12oz including 7 Tigers.
6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Last week John Shaw from Kilsyth had a great session taking 20 plus rainbows on catch and release. Martin Smith from Clydebank took 4 for 13lbs 3oz, Rodger Graham, Larbert, 3 for 6lbs 9oz, Mark Hutchison, Glasgow had a brace for 5lbs and Craig Paterson from Glasgow caught 2 for 5lbs 6oz. Stuart Hudson from Denny took 3 for 6lbs 4oz,Thomas Duncan, Bonnybridge, 3 at 10lbs 9oz – best 5lbs 8oz, Peter Macdonald, Alloa, 4 for 9lbs 8oz and John Coyle from Glasgow managed 2 for 4lbs 5oz. The best flies used last week were the Orange Fritz, Black & Green Fritz, Cat’s Whisker and the Damsel Nymph.
