All areas are fishing well and the top taking flies and lures include the CDC Hoppers Sedge Muddlers, Daddy Longlegs and the Bibio Hopper.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Fishing here Kingennie has been changing like the weather. Some days have seen anglers catching 4-5 fish in the morning then finding it very difficult to tempt the trout in the afternoon. Other days it has been the exact opposite! On the Boathouse Pool some recent catches include Mr Hodge who had 3 fish for 7lbs all on the Daddy Long Legs, Mr Hume 2 fish for 8lbs on a Yellow Dancer and Mr Burke had 2 fish for 8lb10oz both caught fishing Crunchers on “the washing line” method. On Burnside there has been plenty surface activity with fish taking dries when the conditions are right. Daddy Long Legs are starting to show regular as a taking fly. However anglers fishing with intermediate lines are having some great catches!!...An example of this was Mr White who caught and released 19 fish in one morning session using intermediate line and a Black and Silver Humungous. Over the weekend 28 anglers caught and released 84 which is an average of 3 fish per angler. Bankside hasn’t seen many rods this week - however those who have gave it a try have been connecting with some very decent trout. Lures seem to be the order of the day - again Black and Silver Humungous and the Yellow Dancer are both featuring along with Blobs of various colours. The Woodside (any method pool) has seen some great catches with Charlie Buchan catching a cracking rainbow weighing in at 4lb 3oz in amongst his 4 fish for 8lb 4oz. There have been a good number of fish in the 2lb class featuring regular in the catches. Power Bait is definitely still the best option for bait and green seems to be the colour at the moment. Catches over the weekend show 35 anglers weighed in 67 fish for 89lb.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) The biggest fish off last week was a rainbow of 7lbs taken by John Thomson from East Linton, W Neill, Edinburgh, had 4 on a Black & Green Rabbit, Jim Skilling, Shotts, 7 on a Bloodworm and Kyle McGhee from Musselburgh took 3 on a Black and Green Rabbit. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 10 on lures, P Hogg, Edinburgh, 5 on Buzzers and Davy Sleight from Musselburgh caught 6 on a Damsel Nymph.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been a good fishing week with the water cooling down and plenty of fish moving on the top and taking dries giving the anglers great sport. A floating line teamed up with a wide variety of lures and flies have been catching. Jim McIndoe from Cambusbarron FFC took 4 fish for 11lbs 8oz on dries, John Wright, Linden FFC, 4 fish for 12 lbs on a Cat, William Smith, Menstrie, had a brace weighing 11lbs – best 8lbs on a White and Green Nomad and Dave Wilkie from Stirling took 4 fish for 18 lbs - 6 lbs on a Lime Buzzer. Jim Prentice from Tullibody used an Ally McCoist to catch 4 fish for 15lbs, William McCrone, Airdrie, 3 fish for 11lbs on a Bloodworm, Ciaran Docherty, Tillicoultry, 2 for 7lbs on a Damsel and Fay MacLeod from Perth had a brace weighing 7lbs on a Hare’s Ear. Mathew Kirk from Helensburgh took 3 fish for 9lbs 8oz on Buzzers and N Marsden, Stirling, 4 for 12lbs on a Blob.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The wind was the main factor affecting the fishing this week at Swanswater. It had the very positive effect of raising the oxygen levels and cooling the surface of the water. As a result the fish were much more active particularly at the beginning of the week, although the thundery conditions at the end of the week led to fish nipping at the tails of flies, taking short and being lost – very frustrating for anglers. For most of the week they were in the top 2 to 3 feet of the water and intermediate lines with small nymphs or wet flies were working well. Favourite patterns included Hare’s Ear, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer, Kate McLaren, Bibio, Dunkeld, and Black Spider. On the small ponds the best results were from hoppers fished just sub-surface. A large number of Tigers and a few Browns are still featuring in the catch returns from all the ponds. The Fishery is now closing at 9.00pm every evening.
Sandy Jenkins, Carronshore, 2 for 9lb 8oz including 5lb 8oz Rainbow, Stephen Mason and son, Jordan, Cumbernauld, shared, 6 for 16lb including a Brown and 2 Tigers from Swanswater and 3 Tigers from the Meadow Pond, Frank Barr, Falkirk, in two boat outings, 10 for 34lb 8oz and Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 17lb 8oz. 6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) The conditions were really hard last week with high winds and rain spoiling the sport. Eddie Whyte from Kirkintilloch took 3 for 6lbs 7oz, Mr Barr, Kirkintilloch, had a brace weighing 4lbs 8oz, Pat Harte, Bishopbriggs, one for 3lbs and Mr Cooper from Kirkintilloch had a nice rainbow of 3lbs 5oz.
