2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Another week of rain and cooler temperatures has seen made a huge difference to the fishing at Kingennie, the heavy rain over Sunday and Monday has lifted the levels on all the ponds although the flood water hasn’t been very dirty which is really helps. The levels appear to of peaked and are on the way down so the action over the next few days should be really good. The Burnside continues to fish really well with fish being caught on nearly every single method depending on the weather. Dries and Buzzers have been best when settled but damsels and blobs have also taken a lot of fish. There has again been a few big blues and rainbows amongst the catches. Mr Gahagen who was staying in the lodges had a great few days landing well over 20 fish including a blue of around 5lb taken on a dry and a rainbow of about 7lb on a Damsel. Mr Stewart weighed in 3 fish for 8lb and returned another 12 fish fishing Buzzers under the bung. The Boathouse is holding some colour after the rain but it hasn’t affected the fish as Mr McDonald 4 fish for 13lb casting into the dirty water at the inflow with a black and green lure. Mr Redford had the biggest fish of the week with a rainbow that weighed 10lb 9oz taken on a Cormorant. Mr Kirk also had a good evening fishing the washing line with Buzzers and a Fab landing 2 fish for 5lb and putting back another 7. This rain has helped the Bankside more than any of the other ponds and a big flush of water has seen the algae bloom fade way and some really good fishing should be had as the water settles. There has been a huge amount of fry in the pond this year and as the autumn comes in this should bring on some exciting fishing. Mr Thompson was fishing at the inflow with small Nymphs and a Damsel and did very well landing 8 fish in a very short space of time. Mr Whiteford has a good day pulling Yellow Dancers returning 12 fish the largest a rainbow around 5lb. The Woodside has continued to be very busy and most people have managed there fish, The weed looks as if it has reached the limit of its growth so as well as more weed cutting it should be back to normal quite soon. The hot spot still seems to be at the back of the shop where there inset much weed and most methods are catching fish now that they are becoming a lot more active having moved up in the water level. Mr Stevenson and his son had 4 fish for 7lb fish a worm under the float. Mr Walsh had 4 fish for 7lb on a spinner. Mr Ogilvie had the biggest fish of the week with a 4lb 6oz rainbow taken on Powerbait.
A huge congratulation has to go out to the Scottish Youth Fly Fishing Team that is sponsored by Forbes of Kingennie who managed to win the gold medal at the home international on Grafham water. The team were a man down after the captain had to be taken to hospital but they pulled together and every single Scottish rod took fish for a total of 38 trout and claiming the gold. The top Scottish was none other than our very own Alistair Forbes who took five fish ended up second overall. Well done again to all those who took part, if there are any young anglers who would like to enter the heats to fish for their country please contact the fishing shop for more details 01382 350777

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The slightly cooler, breezier weather has led to a drop in water temperature, an increase in oxygen levels and much better fishing conditions. The fish are spread out around the ponds and are to be found at varying levels depending on the weather at the time.During cloudy spells they were mostly just under the surface but when the sun came out they were a bit deeper, between 2 and 4 feet down.On Swanswater, the favourite areas were the dam, the far bay and the burn/bridge area.Anglers choosing to fish the small ponds were also doing well with some excellent sport to be had there, mostly on or just under the surface.Favourite patterns included Hoppers, Spiders, Muddlers, Kate McLaren, Damsel and Buzzer. Over the weekend a number of families and individuals enjoyed taster sessions on the small ponds as part of the Stirling International Angling Festival.Hopefully these newcomers will be the anglers of the future. Congratulations go to two members of the Swanswater Cygnets JAC, Robert Fyfe and Cameron Smith, who were part of the Scottish Youth team who took the Gold Medal at the home international at Grafham Water last week.
