5. SWANSWATER (Stirling). There was some excellent fishing this week with the weekend being particularly productive. From Monday onwards there were big hatches of Black Gnats in the early afternoons and the fish were gorging themselves on them.   There were fish rising all day for a few days particularly round the back of the islands and on the small ponds with things erupting at certain times with fish looking for the hatching gnats.   Mornings and afternoons were the best times for fishing with anything black catching, although the fish were a bit fussier later in the day due to the fact they were full of gnats.   On the main pond the area at the back of the islands was where most of the hatches were, even with the west wind on Friday, and consequently was where a good number of the fish were landed.   Other areas doing well were the channel between the island and the roadside, and the dam where the fish were a bit deeper down.    Some anglers were having success fishing Fritz patterns despite fish rising all round them.    Anglers were reporting lots of follows and again the Tigers were taking close into the bank.    Browns were being taken under the big tree.
Chris Walsh, Powmill, 3 Blues for 12lb, biggest one at 6lb 8oz, Gary Stewart, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb 12oz including 2 Blues, bigger one at 5lb 4oz, and a Brown, Sandy Donald, Dunblane, 2 for 6lb 8oz including 5lb 4oz Rainbow and Graham Arthur, Stirling, in 2 visits, 6 for 21lb 4oz including 4lb Rainbow and 5 Blues. Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 2 for 6lb 12oz including 4lb 12oz Brown, Kevin Gold, Stilling, 3 for 9lb 4oz including  a Blue and 3lb 4oz Brown, Steven Anderson, Glenrothes, 5 for 16lb 4oz, Gregor Hunter, Inchinnan, 5 Blues for 14lb 8oz and Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 13lb 8oz including 4 Blues. Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 Blues for 12lb 10oz, Aaron Kirkwood, 5 for 12lb 4oz including 3 Blues, a Brown and a Tiger, Steven Mason and son, Jordan, Cumbernauld, shared 6 for 15lb 8oz including 5 Blues, Brian Sharp, Stirling, 4 for 11lb and Joe Hunter, Alva, 4 Blues for 10lb. Peter O’Brien, Camelon, 3 for 9lb 4oz including a Tiger, Kevin O’Brien, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb including 2 Browns and a Tiger, Gordon, McPhee, Cumbernauld, 2 for 7lb 4oz including a Blue and John Snaddon, Tillicoultry, 2 Blues for 6lb 8oz. Andrew Bowing, Stirling, 2 for 6lb including a Blue and a Tiger, Angus Auchinachie, Falkirk, 2 Tigers for 5lb, B Coulter, R Paterson and R Cummings, caught and returned 25.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Although the fishery has been a bit quiet for the last week there have never the less been some very respectable catches taken off. Tom Rae from Kirkintilloch had a very tasty rainbow of 3lbs 8oz, Pat Harte from Bishopbriggs took one at 2lbs 1oz, Alan Tanner, Kirkintilloch, had a brace weighing 4lbs 8oz and, on a double ticket, Mr Fife from Kirkintilloch had a bumper catch of 8 fish weighing 19lbs. Catch and release anglers doing well included Mr Anderson from Kirkintilloch with 6 and Mike Gardner from Torrance managed 4. On the bait front worm and maggot are best whilst the fly fishers are finding that Buzzers, Cat’s Whiskers, the Yellow Dancer and the Ally McCoist are doing the best.
