Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 03 February 2014. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 01 February 2014.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2014
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) LATE REPORT TO FOLLOW
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was an extremely quiet week due to the very inclement weather especially at the weekend when very strong winds and rain made fishing well nigh impossible. However Daryl Young from Edinburgh had 10 on Buzzers, Jimmy Watters, Gorebridge, 3 for 8lbs 8oz on Buzzers, Tommy Dickson, Dunbar, 5 on Buzzers and Steven Pearson from Ormiston used an Olive Lure to take a brace weighing 7lbs 8oz.
4. MORTON (Livingston) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) A few keen anglers have been braving the wild conditions and enjoying some good sport. With the highlight coming on Monday when Jim Milne from Alloa caught a lovely 12lb rainbow in his catch of 4 fish for 20lbs on a Green and White Buzzer. Also doing well was Hugh Bratchie from Lochgelly with 4 for 8lbs 8oz on a Yellow Dancer, D. Mudie, Alloa, 4 for 9lbs on Buzzers, Colin Nicoll, Arbroath, 3 for 6lbs on an Orange Fritz and Fraser Wilson from Clackmannan used a Sir Alex Ferguson to bag 2 for 4lbs. Jim Kelly from Airdrie caught 3 fish for 13lbs 8oz on a Minkie, William Olssen, Ayrshire, 4 for 14lbs on a Blob, Bob Ross, Kilsyth, 2 for 4lbs on a Pink Flexi, John Speedie, Cumbernauld, 2 fish for 4lbs on a Hot Head Damsel and Ronnie Stanovich from Glasgow managed 3 fish for 10lbs 8oz on a Kate McLaren.
6. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was another changeable week at Swanswater, weather-wise, but most days the fishing was pretty good, despite rain and wind. The water clarity was reasonable all week and improved towards the weekend. The wind was out of the east for much of the week but this did not really affect the fishing. On Sunday there was a strong west wind and the island was the place to be. During the rest of the week fish were being taken all round the pond at around 4 to 6 feet deep. The usual small lures and nymphs were the favourites this week with the most successful patterns being Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Cormorant, PTN, Montana, Bloodworm and Buzzer. The two small ponds were also fishing well and provided a bit more shelter on the windier days. Tigers and Blues continue to feature in the catch returns.
Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 19lb including 2 Tigers for 11lb, bigger one at 5lb 12oz, Ian Whitelaw, Dunipace, 5 for 15lb including 2 Blues, plus 4 caught and released, Greg McPhillips, Denny, 5 for 14lb and Allan Whitton, Stirling, 4 for 11lb 6oz including a Blue, plus 6 caught and released.
