Fishing report by Jim Boyd

ANGLING PRESS SERVICES

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2014

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) It was another busy week at Forbes of Kingennie with a lot of rods out this week catching lots of fish. The rain over the weekend has coloured the water slightly but it is not too bad at the moment The Burnside has once again been the most productive pond with the fish being well spread out and the best catches have been coming from the top end of the pond. The Cat’s Whisker Cats has been the favoured lure as well as Blobs, Bloodworms and Black and Green Fritz lures fished on an intermediate line. Mr Hampton caught 10 fish and lost the same again fishing Cats on Friday and Mr Simpson braved the miserable weather on Sunday and kept 4 fish for 10lb 6oz and returned a further 11 including a couple of nice blues. The Boathouse hasn't been too busy but those who fished have managed there fish without too much hassle. Most of the fish seem to be sat around the island and have fallen mostly to lures. The best fish this week went to Mr Watson with a 6lb 13oz rainbow caught on an Apps Bloodworm. The water in the Bankside is quite clear and this has shown with a lot of fish falling to Buzzers and Nymphs although lures have again taken there share. The Ferry Fly Dressers fished on Saturday and the 5 rods kept 11 fish for 24lb. The Woodside has again produced good numbers of fish, with nearly every angler managing fish. As always Powerbait and spinners being the preferred method. Mr Hogan took his four fish in just over 45 minutes. Mr Herald took 4 fish for 7lb on Powerbait.

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) The Diawl Bach was a very effective pattern last week with Mattie Devine from Hagston taking 8 on it, Jocky Dyatt, Dalkeith, took 5 and Gordon Bunce from Mayfield had 10. John Horsburgh from Edinburgh used a Blob to take 4, Eddie Peden, Tranent, 6 on Buzzers, David Savage, Edinburgh, 7 on a Montana and Mick Mulgrew from Danderhall had 9 on a Lime Buzzer. Neil Keillor from Dunbar had a whopping catch of 14 on a Lime Buzzer and a Cat’s Whisker and the Fritz and Flies heat saw 24 anglers catching 94 fish with Carl Nixon being the winner with a fine catch of 13 fish.

4. MORTON (Livingston) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water has continued to fish very well at varying depths despite the amount of rain that has fallen. There seems to be no favourite fly with many different ones taking fish. J Alexander from Cornton had a brace for 9lbs – best 7lbs on a Yellow Dancer, Tex from Cornton took 2 for 6lbs on a Yellow Dancer, Robert Garvie, Lennoxtown, 3 for 8lbs on a Black Damsel and C Graham from Lennoxtown caught 2 weighing 4lbs on a 2 Black & Green Fritz. Jack Gibb from Clackmannan had 2 for 8lbs on a Coral Fritz, Hamish Carmichael, Tullibody, 3 for 10lbs on a Coral Fritz, Ronnie Stanovich, Glasgow, 3 for 8lbs on a Kate McLaren and Andy Airnes from Clackmannan, bagged 4 for 9lbs on Buzzers. Last but not least Bryon Martin from Alva took 4 for 10lbs 4oz on Buzzers.

6. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The bigger Tigers seemed to wake up this week with some spectacular results! Seven Tigers over 5lb were landed with two lucky anglers taking two each. These fish are in excellent condition and are giving anglers a terrific fight. In general the ponds were fishing better in the mornings than in the afternoons, with the exception being Sunday when the fishing was very good all day. The fish have been well spread out round the main pond, 5-6 feet down early in the week, around 3 feet down towards the end of the week and in the top couple of feet on Sunday. No matter what the depth, the fish were usually looking for something to chase and many anglers were reporting a lot of pulls and tugs that did not connect. The usual selection of flies was working well with Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer and Bloodworm being the most successful.Brian Donald, Hamilton, 3 for 13lb including 6lb 8oz Tiger and a Blue, Ronnie Lockhart, Uddingston, 3 for 11lb 4oz including 6lb 4oz Tiger, Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 for 18lb including 6lb Tiger and a Blue, Peter Paterson, Menstrie, 2 Tigers for 10lb 12oz, bigger one at 5lb 12oz and Alasdair Collier, Menstrie, 2 Tigers for 10lb 8oz, bigger one at 5lb 4oz.
