Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 06 January 2014. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 05 January 2014.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2014
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a very quiet week with few anglers out braving the nasty elements but those who did venture out had some decent sport. P Kennedy from Haddington had 9 on a Black Dancer, Donald Campbell, Musselburgh, 8 on a Black & Green Rabbit and Neil Keillor from Dunbar took 6 on a Damsel Nymph. Jock Dyatt from Gorebridge had a bumper catch of 11 on the Egg and Tommy Dickson, Dunbar, had 6 on a small Damsel Nymph.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been a very mixed start to the New Year with the 2nd being dry and the 3rd being so wild the fishery was closed. On the better days the fish have been getting caught from about a foot to five feet down on a wide variety of flies including the Diawl Bach, Damsel Nymph, Buzzers, Black Dancer, Black & Green Dancer and the Yellow Dancer.
Featuring amongst the best baskets was Ryan Angus from Perth with a brace weighing 6lbs on a Damsel, Jimmy Young, Alloa, 3 for 8lbs on a Damsel, Allan Mitchell, Stirling, 3 for 7lbs on various lures and Kevin Kilman from Shotts took 3 for 8lbs on a Blob. Dickie Kerr from Fallin caught 4 for 8lbs on the Okey Dokey, David Rutherford, Grangemouth, 4 for 12lbs on a Yellow Dancer and Ronnie Stanovich from Glasgow took 3 for 9lbs on a Black & Green Fritz.
Elizabeth thanks everyone for their custom in 2013 and wishes everyone all the very best for 2014.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) 2013 ended with wet and windy weather …. and 2014 started the same! Conditions were somewhat difficult for most of the week with Thursday and Saturday being the best days for fishing. The water was coloured after the worst of the rain but cleared quickly due to the amount of water running through the main loch. During the week the fish were in the top 3 to 4 feet; at the weekend, the wind direction changed to coming out of the east and the fish went down, being taken 6 to 8 feet deep. Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Damsel, Blob, Buzzer and Diawl Bach were the most popular flies, both near the surface and down deep. Tigers continue to feature in the returns, either being weighed in or released to fight another day. Happy New Year and Tight Lines for 2014 to all our anglers.
Iain Whitelaw, Dunipace, in two visits, 4 for 13lb including 6lb Tiger and 3 Blues, and 4 Blues for 11lb, Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 5 for 13lb 8oz, 4 Blues, Charles Devine, Stirling, 4 for 11lb including a Tiger and Jim Donnelly, Milton of Campsie, 4 Blues for 11lb. Father and son, Stephen and Liam Mullin, Pitlochry, shared 4 Blues for 10lb 4oz including one from the Meadow Pond, Davy Simpson, Forfar, 4 Blues for 9lb 12oz plus 5 caught and released, Graeme Arthur, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 Blues plus another 4 returned and George Gemmell, Falkirk, 3 for 8lb from the Millpond. Mark Turner, Sauchie, 2 for 6lb, Darren Hill, Cambus, in two visits, caught and released 27 and Allan Kirkam, Airdrie, caught and returned 9 including a Tiger, from the boat.
