Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 23 December 2013. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 22 December 2103.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2014
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The weather was fairly poor with wind and rain to battle against but the anglers who did venture out where rewarded with some good sport. The Boathouse Pool had a fair bit of colour in it for most of the week which made for some difficult fishing, the fish have responded well to lures and blobs fished on floating lines. On Burnside the water has not had as much colour as the boathouse and a more natural approach has worked best. Floating lines and Buzzers have done very well with black being the top colour in sizes 12 and 14 and anglers who have fished lures found a small Cat’s Whisker fished on an intermediate line worked best. On the Bankside there have been some nice returns this week with some browns showing up in the catch returns, nicest fish of the week on bankside was a fin perfect brown of around 3lbs 8oz which, of course, was returned. In terms of methods and flies the Buzzers on a floater or Cat’s Whisker on an intermediate were best. Woodside, the bait pond continues to fish well to popped up power bait with small Mepps spinners also doing well.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) The nasty weather kept numbers down a wee bit last week but J McGhee from Glasgow had 7 on a Black Rabbit, David Savage, Edinburgh, 6 on a Black and Green rabbi and Mr. Horsburgh, Edinburgh had 6 on an Orange Lure best 5lbs 8oz. Tommy Dickson from Dunbar managed 6 on the Bloodworm, Neil Keillor, Dunbar, 5 on a Pink Rabbit and Benny Gribble from Edinburgh used a Green Buzzer to take a fine 9lb rainbow.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The few anglers that braved the stormy conditions this week were rewarded with some great fishing. All three ponds were fishing well with the fish well spread out and being caught around 3 to 6 feet down. The usual wide selection of flies including Dancer, Damsel, Buzzer, Bloodworm, Cat’s Whisker, Hoglouse and PTN were taking fish. The heavy rain at the end of the week coloured the water a little, but it has quickly cleared. The Fishery is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, reopening on Friday 27th with the annual charity competition. There are still a few spaces available for the competition so if you want to work off your Christmas dinner, please contact the Fishery. The Management and Staff would like to wish all our anglers a very happy Christmas.
Ken McNicol, Dunipace, 3 for 13lb including 2 Tigers at 6lb 6oz and 4lb 14oz, Ryan Quinn, Airdrie, 2 for 9lb including 5lb 8oz Tiger and a Blue, Iain Whitelaw, Dunipace, 5 Blues for 15lb plus 2 caught and released and Alex Knox, Glasgow, 4 Blues for 11lb 8oz. Danny Doherty, Denny, after his bag of 4 for 9lb 4oz released another 3 including a Tiger estimated at around 7lb, Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 3 Blues for 9lb, Andy Tervit, Paisley, 3 Blues for 8lb 8oz and Nan Morrison, Stirling, 3 Blues for 8lb. Ian Munro, Stirling, 15 caught and released in the Millpond and Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, caught and released 7.
