plenty of fish.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) On days when the breeze has been
milder the fishing has been very positive but the colder easterlies have generally
resulted in reduced catches.

The  Boathouse Pool fished steadily most of the week. On Saturday there were
nine fish taken for a total of 57lbs 02ozs. Mr. Calder had four fish for 25lbs and Mr.
McEwan took two for 12lbs 10ozs on an Orange Fritz. This was followed on Sunday
by the Davis group taking sixteen fish for 98lbs. Best total fell to Stevie Johnson with
four weighing 27lbs 8ozs. Largest fish was a rainbow of 8lbs 4ozs taken by Drew
Rennie.

Burnside has been rather more moody but some excellent results have been
achieved. On the catch and release option George Birse returned 13 fish, mainly
caught on a Bronze Polar Bear. Buzzers have also accounted for a number of fish.
On evenings when the wind has dropped the sport has been amazing with fish high
in the water taking dries and buzzers.

On several occasions the  Bankside Pool has excelled. Monday afternoon and
evening produced some classic dry fly and buzzer fishing resulting in twelve fish
being taken for 25lbs and 40 more being returned on catch and release. Then on
Saturday Davie Simpson's Mayday competition accumulated 65 fish for an overall
weight of 136lbs 4ozs. These fell to a large variety of flies including Yellow Dancer,
Sparkly Damsel, various Buzzers and Nymphs. The pairs trophy went to Dougie
Brennan and Robert Gibson with a combined total of 8 fish for 18lb 3oz, 2nd place
went to Stuart Brennan and "Big Fritz" with a total of 15lb 11oz and Dougie Brennan
won the overall prize and the biggest fish prize with a nice fish of 3lb 9oz Many
thanks to Dave and his group for achieving some great results and for keeping the
staff at Kingennie well entertained with their good humour.

The any legal method pool, Woodside, has been a little erratic with the best daily
result being twelve fish for a total of 19lbs 04ozs. Green Powerbait again claimed the
spot for most successful bait followed by spinners.

There are only a last few spaces for the heat of the Kingennie Bank Championship to
be held on the evening of the 1st of June so call the sports department if you would
like a place reserved (01382 350213 or 350777 ext. 5)

5.  SWANSWATER (Stirling) There was a blink of spring on Tuesday and the
weather actually warmed up, but it was over very quickly and things returned to this
year’s normal of cool breezes and rain or showers.    At times the breeze was too
strong and anglers struggled to cast into it, but on these occasions the small ponds
proved to be a good alternative as they are much more sheltered and were fishing
well.   The fish are still taking around 3 to 4 feet down although they are occasionally
seen moving nearer the surface.   The swallows are still busy skimming the ponds,
but the weather is against the fish rising to whatever is coming off the water.   A few
wet flies were tried successfully this week, including Black Pennell and Mrs Simpson,
but generally it was nymphs and small lures that were the favourites, with the best
patterns being the usual Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, Diawl Bach and Buzzers.
A good number of Tigers in the 5lb range are now being landed and these beautiful
fish figure regularly in the catch returns. The Fishery is now open until 9pm every
evening.

6. WOODBURN FISHERY (Milton of Campsie) Once again the poor weather did the
fly fishers no favours but despite this there were some good catches with anglers
travelling from all over central Scotland to enjoy the delights of this brand new fishing
venue. The bait anglers have done particularly well especially when fishing the
maggot and on the fly front both floating and sinking lines were producing fish with
the top taking lures including the Black Pennell, Ally McCoist, various Nymphs, the
Diawl Bach, Montana and the Yellow Dancer.

John Lowe from Banknock had the best trout last week – a cracking 12lb 2oz brown
trout that was taken on a Black Pennell – this specimen fish was safely returned.
Graham Rankin from Glasgow had a lovely 7lb 8oz rainbow on fly, Dennis Maxwell,

sportingly returned, Mark Anderson, Kilsyth, returned 7 rainbows – best 4lbs, David
Whyte, Stewarton, had a 3lb 8oz rainbow on a Yellow Dancer and Nigel Walker from
