Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 20 June 2011
The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 19 June 2011.
1. BUTTERSTONE (Dunkeld) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
2. FRANDY (Gleneagles) Mark Sturrock from Cairneyhill kept 6 fish weighing 12lb 8oz, Bill Ramage (Tillicoultry) 3 fish for 6lb 4oz, John Banner (Sauchie) 3 for 8lb 4oz and John Philliban (Stenhousemuir) kept 5 fish weighing 15lb.
The angling clubs were very active at the fishery with the Perthshire F/C keeping 8 fish weighing 18lb 9oz, Dunfermline Artisan A/C 13 fish for 29lb 12oz, Rainbow A/C 27 for 74lb, Balbeggie A/C 25 fish for 58lb 4oz and the Trout Anglers Club kept 16 fish weighing 40lb. Morton A/C had 4 fish for 9lb, Trossachs A/C 11 fish weighing 17lb 4oz, Kelty Artisan A/C 5 for 11lb 12oz, North Berwick A/C 25 fish for 61lb, Tap Shop A/C 8 fish weighing 22lb 8oz and the Edinburgh Masonic Club kept 4 fish weighing 12lb 12oz.
The best flies have been the Cats Whisker, Black Hopper, Red Wee Beastie, Sedgehog, Muddler and the Kate McLaren with all areas currently fishing well.
3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing at Kingennie this week has been influenced by changes in the weather with everything from bright sunshine and calm to thunder storms and windy. However, there have been some very good returns with small dry flies beginning to score as fly hatches increase. Floating lines have proved to be the most popular on Burnside & Bankside with intermediate lines taking more fish on the specimen Boathouse pond. On Woodside Pond the most successful methods have been Powerbait & maggots.
The Boathouse has witnessed a number of fish in excess of 5lbs with the biggest rainbow taken by Mr Darkle weighing in at 9lbs 3ozs. The best two fish return was 13lbs for Mr McEwan. Most fish fell to lures with Damsel patterns reigning supreme. During caenis hatches the water has again been alive with rising fish on the Burnside although these have not been easy to catch. The Shuttlecock CDC, Hoppers & CDC Hoppers have accounted for good bags of fish. In certain conditions the Floating Fry lures have proved very successful.
On the Bankside Mr Blaire caught 6 fish for 10lbs 12ozs and Mr Barr took 3for 9lbs. Black & green was a favoured colour combo with small dark dry flies scoring well. Fishing on the all method pond Woodside was more unpredictable although some excellent returns were made. Mr Lowe had 6 fish for 7lbs 12ozs and Mr Majic took a bag of 6 fish for 7lbs 4ozs.
4. HOLL (near Kinross) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. MARKLE (East Lothian) LATE REPORT TO FOLLOW
6. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water has been fishing very well all round with a lot of fish coming up for the dry flies as there have been such a lot of flies on top of the water and the feeding in the water is back to normal now with the warmer days. With springs all around the water the fish are moving freely and as well as dries a wide variety of other flies have been doing well.
Last Thursday Paul MacKenzie from Almondbank caught 4 fish for 18lbs 8oz with the best, a lovely 6lb 8oz rainbow that fell to the charms of a Green & Black Nymph. Also doing well was John Binnie from Fallin with 3 for 12lbs on a Diawl Bach, David Pitcaithly, Falkirk, 3 for 13lbs on a Black & Green Tadpole, John McKechnie, Stirling, 3 for 10lbs on an Orange Fritz, Martin Cairns, Coatbridge, 3 for 8lbs on an Orange Dancer and Graham King, Almondbank, 3 for 10lbs 8oz on a Blue Damsel. Graham Chalmers from Denny had a brace for 5lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Grant Bakker Alloa, 3 for 8lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Harry Sherwood, Cumbernauld, 3 for 8lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Jill Gardner, Muthill, 2 for 5lbs 8oz on a Pink Johnny and Derek King, Stirling, 3 for 8lbs on a Diawl Bach. Tom Craig from Stirling used a Diawl Bach to take 3 for 11lbs; David McMurchie from the Goth FFC caught 5 fish for 15lbs on a Diawl Bach and Derek King, Stirling, 3 fish for 8lbs on a Diawl Bach. Tom Craig from Stirling had 3 for 11lbs on a Diawl Bach and David McMurchie, Goth FFC, caught 5 for 15lbs on a Diawl Bach.
7. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) The coarse fishery has been fishing well this week with a lot of fish being caught on both waters with a variety of baits. David Heron from Inverurie had a 20lb mirror and an 11lb mirror and a few more good fish on Midton.
On Sunday the third match of the Orchill series was fished with the falling results:-
James Woodrow from the Magiscroft and Orchill Central Clubs was the winner with 46lbs 6oz, Colin Skeel from Magiscroft came second with 39lbs 6oz and Paul Joyce from Orchill Central was third with 34lbs. Also doing well in the event was Neil Chapman 32lbs 4oz, Jim Hillhouse 30lbs 3oz, Douglas Mail 26lbs 10oz, John Baird Jnr 26lbs 8oz, Tony Ball 24lbs 8oz, David Cocoran 24lbs 6oz and Barry Morgan 24lbs 1oz.
8. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The water temperature at Swanswater is currently 12oC, which is around 4o lower than normal for the time of year, and the clarity is excellent. The fish are active and are generally looking for something to chase so a fast retrieve, usually near the surface, is needed to attract them. They are still taking a wide variety of flies with everything from small lures to dry flies taking fish this week, although static buzzers were not doing as well as sometimes. Favourite patterns included Damsel, Dancer, Gold-head Daddy Long Legs, Viva, Snatcher, Sedge, Bibio and CDC. Wet and dry flies were working particularly well on the small ponds and members of the Cygnets JAC did well on the CDCs they learnt to tie at the class on Sunday. There were a good number of excellent bags this week with plenty of fish in the 3lb to 4lb range being taken, including some lovely Blues and Browns.
Michael Cuthbert, Bathgate, 3 for 13lb including 6lb 8oz Blue, Stephen Cowan, Linwood, 5 for 15lb including 2 Browns, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 16lb 8oz, John Walker, Stirling, 5 for 16lb 4oz including 3 Blues, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 16lb 4oz including a Blue and Alec Peachey, Scone, 5 for 13lb 8oz including 2 Blues and a Brown.
