The favourite flies have been Hoppers, Orange Blob, Cats Whisker, Sedge Muddler,
Dabblers, Sedgehogs and at present all areas are fishing well.
3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing has been steady at
Forbes of Kingennie this week with all the pools producing good numbers of fish
with the Boathouse continuing to be the most productive pond. Most fish have been
coming to floating lines with a mixture of flies. When the weather is right the evening
rise has been fantastic with lots of fish coming to dries.
The Boathouse has been on great form this past week - the water has been gin
clear with most fish falling to lures such as Hot Head Damsels, Black and Green Fritz
and Cormorants. The best fish of the week went to Mr R Holmes with a rainbow of
10lb 9oz. The average size continues to be around the 5lb mark. The best bag of the
week went to the Simpson group with 10 rainbows for 62lbs.
The Burnside is still producing good numbers of fish for those who can find the
method. Lures are still catching fish but small naturals such as Buzzers and Dries
are by far the most successful choices. The best fish of the week was a 5lb rainbow
taken on a small dry by Mr Dixon.
The Bankside has been very steady with lots of fish coming to a number of methods
but lures such as the Cats Whisker, Rob Roy and Dries have been taking the
majority of the fish. There are still some good fish being caught with the best fish of
the week being taken by Mr Wood with a rainbow of 6lb 11oz on a small Bleeding
Cat.
The Woodside has continued to produce lots of fish to most methods. The worm
and the spinner have been the most popular choice. Mr Stuart caught the best fish
this week with a fin perfect silver rainbow of 4lb 6oz on a worm fished in the margins.
4. HOLL (near Kinross) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. MARKLE (East Lothian) LATE REPORT TO FOLLOW
6. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It was another changeable week with the weather so
the anglers are having to change as well - at times dries have been doing well
when conditions are right as well as Buzzers, HH Damsel, Diawl Bach, Hare's Ear,
Bloodworm, Pinkies and Yellow Dancer.
On Thursday Sandy Watson from Ireland had a good day catching 4 fish for 22
lbs., best 13lbs on a Green Buzzer and Peter Paterson from Menstrie had 3 fish
for 10lbs 8oz – best 7lbs 4oz on Buzzers. Also doing well was William Alexander
from
Almondbank, 3 for 8lbs 8oz on a Black & Green Fritz, John Gavin, Perth, also used a
B&G Fritz to take 4 for 9lbs 8oz. Eric Cutler from Worcestershire had 7 fish for 15lbs
on a Damsel, Steven McVean, Port of Menteith, 3 for 8lbs on the dry fly, Jock Esplin,
Bonnybridge, 3 for 10lbs 8oz on the Braco Bug and Ray Lovell, Tillicoultry, caught 3
fish weighing 8lbs 8oz on a Black & Green Nymph. Jake Conroy from Stirling took 3
fish for 8lbs 8oz on Dries, Marshall Jamieson, Perth, 3 for 8lbs on a Diawl Bach and
Anne Orr, Tullibody 3 for 8lbs on a Damsel. Wilson Orr from Tullibody caught 3 fish
for 9lbs on a Damsel and David Drummond from the Woolpack, Tillicoultry had 5 fish
for 17lbs on a Damsel.
7. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) Unfortunately the overnight grass frost
has slowed up the catching of the fish up at the coarse as these fish prefer warmer
water. Hopefully, summer will come soon.
Last Sunday the Scottish Federation had a match on the Snake Lake with 28 anglers
taking part. The winner was Colin Hart with 60lbs 14oz, Stephen McAveny came
Menstrie with 3 fish for 9lbs on a Black & Green Fritz, Paul McKenzie,
second with 48lbs and Stuart Dalgleish was third with 42lbs 8oz. On the Club front
the results were Magiscroft 11 points, Monklands A 12points and the Crazy Gang
13 points
8. SWANSWATER (Stirling) With the weather remaining cool, the fish are still active
although those seen moving around the top of the water are not necessarily those
that are being caught.
and are looking for small lures and nymphs fished with a fairly fast retrieve. On the
small ponds, wet flies, such as Bibio, Kate McLaren and Spiders have been doing
well. At the end of the week dry flies were beginning to work well on Swanswater as
well as in the evenings on the small ponds. There have been no particular hot-spots
on the ponds although the dam area has been fishing well first thing in the morning.
