ORCHILL
TROUT FISHERY
(Braco) The water is still fishing very well with Dries doing best as
well as the usual lures which are always a favourite with anglers who
have their own flies they have faith in. On Saturday the Rubber Ear

fish for 9lbs - best 4lbs on a Green Wotsit, The Leakey from Kenya 5

FORBES OF
KINGENNIE
(Broughty Ferry) May has been somewhat disappointing weather-wise but
there have still been spells when the fishing has really switched on.
The Boathouse
Pool has
generally fished better to smaller patterns like various dry fly
options and Black/Green Buzzers). Mr. Simpson found the right method
to return ten fish. On the Burnside
Pool Alan
Thomson released ten fish, taken mainly on dries, with the best being
a fine rainbow estimated at 10lbs and Robert Gibson also did well
returning eight fish in a short session. Monday’s wild wind did not
stop the fish rising for dries and Mr Burnett returned 16 on small
black Dries and Mr Birse returned 13 fish on various flies. Water
clarity has been gin clear in the Bankside
Pool making
good presentation necessary in order to get results. Frank Sherriff
certainly responded well to the conditions, returning nine fish. The
Woodside Pool
(any legal method) provided Monty Parratt with his first fish ever -
a superb rainbow weighing 4lbs 4ozs - not a bad way to start an
angling career! The local scout cubs outing had 16 fish for a total
weight of 33 lbs so again a happy set of young fishers.
This
past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a
change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they
have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and
cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds
have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been
essential for constant results.
The
Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with
lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions.
The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the
returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the
bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The
washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher
in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when
they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2
consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish
was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones
had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a
sugar cube shipman’s.
The
Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible
on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit
slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more
natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee
buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right
conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black
buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing
diawl bachs.
The
Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has
been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface
in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on
small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up
to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish
for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The
Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full
bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top
bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed
68 fish for weight of 115lb.
4.
MARKLE
(East Lothian)
Jim Matthews
from Edinburgh had 3 for 11lbs on a Bloodworm, Davy Smith (Dunbar) 6
on a Sedge, Bruce Hunter (Edinburgh) used a Blob to catch 8 and
Graham Meadows from Edinburgh had 4 on Buzzers. Gordon Dagg from
Pathead used Buzzers to take 4; John Thomson (East Linton) 5 on an
Egg and Joe Beattie from Edinburgh had 6 on a Green& White
Rabbit.
5.
SWANSWATER
(Stirling)
It was a very quiet week at Swanswater with some heavy rain deterring
anglers from fishing. Those who came out had mixed fortunes with
some days harder than others. At the start of the week the fish were
seen moving and feeding but were proving rather hard to tempt.
Later in the week they were being taken in the top 2 feet of the
water and looking for lures or nymphs. Cat’s Whisker, Ally
McCoist, Damsel, Wotsit, Diawl Bach and Black Spider were the
favourite patterns. On the bait pond various power baits were
attracting fish. Some cracking 4-5lb fish feature in the catch
returns this week and there are plenty more of that size waiting to
be caught. The Fishery is open 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Wednesday
and 8.00am to 9.00pm Thursday to Sunday,
Ian
Whitfield, Denny, in three visits, 6 for 20lb 10oz including 4lb 8oz

including a Blue, plus 1 C&R, Jim Craig, Balloch, 3 for 8lb 8oz
including a Blue, Jim Spiers, Falkirk, 3 for 8lb 8oz including a

There
were only a couple of bait anglers out this week with Robbie
Livingston taking 5 for 12lb 8oz including 2 Blues and Ross Martin 2
for 4lb 12oz including a Blue.
