FORBES OF
KINGENNIE
(Broughty Ferry) The weather has again been very changeable and the
best results have been to those anglers who have been prepared to
change tactics in order to find where the fish were and what they
were feeding on. Despite some very low temperatures for the time of
year there have still been spells when dry fly patterns have enjoyed
considerable success.
Top
rod on the Boathouse
Pool was Mr.
Skivington who had an excellent session returning 25 fish; Liam Kirk
released 17 fish including two superbly conditioned rainbows
estimated at 10lbs and 5lbs; Mark Beaton returned 15 fish (mainly on
dries) and Mr. McDonald released 9. The Yellow Owl, Shipman’s and
various Buzzer patterns took most of the fish. The Burnside
Pool was a
little more difficult this week, although plenty of fish were still
caught. Tam Costello released 9 in a short morning session, with the
best fish being a fine Rainbow of 10lbs 8oz followed by another of
10lbs later in the week. Jeff Melville also returned 9 and Jake
Gilchrist released 8 in a short evening session. Jim Strachan took
four fish for a total of 19lbs 8oz including a magnificent Rainbow of
13lbs. Buzzers accounted for most of the fish but Yellow Owl dries
did well and several were taken on a Yellow Dancer. There was some
superb sport on the Bankside
Pool with
Ian Barlow releasing 20 fish; Jock Leslie returned 15 whilst Grant
Burnett and Scott Watson released 8 each. On Thursday six anglers
returned a total of 43 fish taken mainly on Dries and Buzzers whilst
on Saturday three anglers returned 26 fish, again mainly on dry fly
patterns. The any legal method pool Woodside
Pool, again
fished best to Powerbait beneath a float, although spinning produced
some of the better fish. On Monday there were 29 fish landed for a
combined weight of 48lbs.
The
Deal of the Week is 8hrs Catch and Release for the cost of 6hrs on
the fly-only ponds.
This
past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a
change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they
have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and
cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds
have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been
essential for constant results.
The
Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with
lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions.
The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the
returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the
bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The
washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher
in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when
they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2
consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish
was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones
had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a
sugar cube shipman’s.
The
Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible
on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit
slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more
natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee
buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right
conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black
buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing
diawl bachs.
The
Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has
been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface
in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on
small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up
to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish
for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The
Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full
bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top
bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed
68 fish for weight of 115lb.

SWANSWATER
(Stirling)
The week started cool with an
easterly breeze and the fish sitting in the Far Bay, behind the
Island and around the overflow. It got slightly towards the end of
the week although the wind was still from the east. Thursday, Friday
and Saturday saw some big hatches of Hawthorns with lots of fish
feeding on them on the surface especially on the small ponds. The
water clarity remains excellent with the temperature 9-10oC. For
most of the week the usual lures were taking fish around 3 to 4 feet
down with nymphs, such as Diawl Bach, PTN, Hare’s Ear and Montana
also taking fish. Towards the weekend wet and dry flies were also
taking fish with favourite patterns being Hopper, Black Spider, and
Kate McLaren.
Many
bait anglers were having a lot of fun and success using Orange or
Green Power Bait and Maggots. The Fishery is now open Monday to
Wednesday 8.00am to 6.00pm and Thursday to Sunday 8.00am to 9.00pm.

the best bags on the fly were Andy Duffin, Cowie, in two visits, 5
