Lake of Menteith 24 th June Clarity 3.2m 6ft Water temperature 16C WATER CLARITY remains very good (it was up at 4 meters last week) and we (like other lochs) are seeing parts of the bottom that we haven’t seen before and there is also evidence of underwater plant life being on the increase as a result of increased levels of light penetration. Reasons for it being so clear? The primary one has to be the long dry spell that we have had at Menteith and the small amounts of rain has meant reduced run off into the watercourses. In addition some loch management measures may be helpful. These include the continued move to short shafted outboards which should result in less agitation of the sediment and release of nutrients. TROUT MENU: DAMSEL FLIES, MAYFLIES, PIN HEAD FRY, SEDGES, CAENIS. Best areas in recent times have been Malling Shore, Gateside, Rookery and the Road Shore. The prolific rises at Lochend and the Butts have not been taking place of recent but I am told of tremendous activity west of Inch Talla late on last night. Best tactics have been ripping lures on a sink tip and white cat, boobies, blobs and dancers have all worked well. For the “purist” there is still an opportunity to try the washing line of dries and buzzers and there are some great residents to be had using these tactics.
