Lake of Menteith 24th July

6ft Water Temperature 18C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.1m.

Its been a mixed week with the weather ranging from damp to wet. A lot of fish rising to sedges, Damsels and
other wee stuff I don’t know the names off. The fish are still been taken in the top foot of the water. Using either
floating or a slow intermediate line the flies that are doing well include Cormorants, Yellow owls, Olives, Diawl
bachs, Crunchers, buzzers as well as tequila booby’s. Areas that are doing well are Hotel Bay, Sam’s point though
Rookery and cages up to Malling shore.
A wee reminder we have put an extra early mornings (4am to 9am) fishing on this Saturday 28th July.

Scottish club Championships sponsored by Famous Grouse and with additional prices from Active Angling.

Sixteen clubs took part in the 12th heat of the Scottish Club Championship on Saturday night

On the 11th night of the Baynes Boat League it was a flood warning night with 19 brave soles landed 48 trout.
Best bag was Bill Ramage but as he was out on his own for the second time his score is not included.......Officially
the winner on the night was Graham Steel at the top end on a midge tip with wets (damsels, cormorants, diawls).
Bill R got his on the white cat in the cages. This sheet has been adjusted for being out on own. George Whyte is
still holding on to first place. Full details are on the website.

On Wednesday the 2012 Scottish Command Fly Fishing tournament was held for the fourth consecutive year
many Anglers from HMNB Clyde took the water on what was to be a “WET WET” affair. Weather was not for
the faint hearted, with heavy showers forecasted all day, overcast and a Biting N/W wind winter woolies were
required or as Billy Connelly once quoted “ there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate clothing”

A few fish were being caught despite the weather but it
wasn’t until the afternoon all the anglers finally started to
get tight lines. Unusual but not uncommon CPO Steve Losh
and CDR Bill Jones both landed Pike the biggest being 9lb.
CPO R Goram landed the first trout on a yellow and orange
blob followed closely L/CPL G Henry.
Overall 27 trout were weighed in for a combined total of
78lb 8ozs with 6 trout returned. Best Novice of the day went
to CPO Steve Losh from the gymnasium catching his first
trout 2lb 12ozs on the fly as well as a pike. Heaviest trout
went to CPO Clive “General” Lee (FOST CLYDE) 4lb
6ozs. CPO Ron Goram was bagged up by 16.00 and finished
runner-up with a bag total of 14lb 12ozs. (Reported by
Malcolm warren)
