Lake of Menteith fishing report
Once again Sat evening saw the rain and wind which had prevailed during the day move away and conditions
improved into a lovely evening. 2 previous winners were in the 14 teams competing. In all 132 trout weighing
a total of 294lbs 8oz were caught. The anglers were on the usual 2 fish kept, then C&R for 2lb per returned fish
bonus. 57 trout were released. 1st place with 16 trout for 38lb 2oz were Neilston Fly Fishers. 2nd place with 15
trout for 34lb 7oz were Port Glasgow A.C. 3rd place with 11 trout for 27lb 11oz were Kinross Ex-Servicemen.
Top Individuals Stevie O"Neill Neilston F.F. with 10 trout, Alex Galloway Kinross Ex-Servicemen 5 trout,
Wullie Fulton Port Glasgow with 6 fish, George Martin Port Glasgow with 5 fish, Kenny Sichi Priory with 6 fish.
Heaviest fish was a beauty of 5lb 5-4 oz caught by George Martin. Stevie O’Neill’s tactics were floating line
with CDC shuttlecocks at Malling Shore, Stable Point and into GatesideBay. Second placed Alex Galloway of
Kinross and Tillicoultry fame also fished the Malling shore near Dog Island. He was using a midge tip line on
the "washing line" method with candy booby or orange FAB on tail and diawl bachs above.
BAYNES TACKLE (Callander) Menteith Boat League 8th Heat . Slightly harder fishing due to the Anglian
water Heat Pressure but 18 anglers still caught 40 fish. Top rod was Bill Ramage (his usual style is white cat
(booby?) and floating line? Mark Stevens tops the League.

Top 3 qualifying 6 man teams were:
1. Neilston Flyfishers; 51 fish 106lbs 14oz: T.Burnett, B. MacKenzie, S.O’Neill, M.Steven, S.Leask,
R.Robb.
2. Change A; 42 fish W.Leach, K.McCabe, J.McBride, J.Crawford, A.Dunn, J.Kettles
3. Thalassa AC M.Williams, A.Thomas D.Pozzi, D.Purves, M.Connet, K.Wilson.
Top bag on the day was National Champion Ronnie Glass of Kelso with 10 fish. Ronnie was fishing dries. 48
anglers weighed in 96 fish for 237 lbs and returned 180. The rod average was 5.75 fish.
