Rubber Ducked!
The Lake of Menteith boat league competition which we at James Bayne fishing tackle are sponsering this year began on wednesday night.
Conditions on the opening evening were fantastic, there was a good turn out of anglers as this is a very popular competition.
I was paired up with a very nice fellow called Davy Stewart whom regular fishers at the Lake will know, as Davy used to run the burger stall.
The buz word seemed to be buzzers which to be honest i'm not a fan however i thought i'd give it a go, so with my midge tip fly line and all my gear we set off, Davy said that Sandy Bay was the spot to be, which is the far end on the left. So eager to get some fish we set off only for the shear pin on the engin to go half way there! After a quick call back to base Douglas came out to tow us back, i should have gone straight back home! In the new boat we set out once more, this time we decided to try Sams' point as it was a bit closer, within a few casts Davy hit a fish and then a second which unfortunately got off. So we decided to try Sandy Bay.
As we approached we could see a boat tucked close into the side and fish showing on the surface, we gently manovered into position and began fishing, the place was teaming with rainbows, it wasn't long before Davy hit a big fish and got it into the boat, they were flopping about all over the place a few other boats began to arrive and it wasn't long before we could see tigh lines.
I tried every thing, cormorants, yellow dancers, dries all sorts but it was one of those days and no matter what i threw at them they were not intrested in me! Alass i did not even get a bump.
Congratulations to Graham Steel who won with a total of 13 fish!
Still i will be back next wednesday if nothing else but to give back the duck, hopefully not to get it back again!
Well done to the team.
ps.
Look out for the pics !
