Lake of Menteith 29th May
6ft Water Temperature 19C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 1.7m.
Home Win for Scots Ladies
The Ladies’ International at the Lake last week was thoroughly enjoyed by all those involved but the icing on the
cake for the Scots was their gold medal. Above: Scots ladies cool off after the result is announced. The tactics on
the day was buzzer fishing in Butts Bay. Top rod overall was Wendy Mitchel of Scotland with 7 fish for 15lbs 9.8
oz. 2nd top rod was Martha Thomson of England with 7 fish for 14lbs 5.8oz.
The catch; 46 anglers netted 118 fish and returned 37.
Scotland 42 fish 92lbs 7oz
England 36 fish
Wales
21 fish 46lbs 13oz
Ireland 19 fish 44lbs 6oz
Left: Scot’s Capitain Elaine McCracken accepts the winner’
trophy from International Chairperson Jane Wright. I spoke to
Elaine today (29/5/12) and Elaine tells me that Scots Ladies’
Manager John Buchanan is “more comfortable now and
definitely on the mend” since being hospitalised on the day of
the match on account of a ruptured gall bladder. Elaine
thanked everyone for the support and offers of well wishing
that her and (husband to be) John have received. She is
hopefull that John will be able to come home fairly soon.

phone! Below left Photo by Colin Riach.
Our may hot spell (was it a whole week) raised the water temperature
to 21C at 6ft on Monday 28th May. The strong wind meant clarity
was very poor in the north west corner but not too bad and cooler in
the South East drifts of Lochend, Kates Brae and the Road Shore.
This has been where the fishing has taken place and recently catches
have been on intermediate to floating lines with boobies and nymphs
(e.g. diawl bachs). The hot spell appears to have brought the prolific
buzzer hatch in the Butts to an end and the main flies on the water
(that I have noticed) are Sedges, Mayflies and damsels.
In the Scottish Club Championships, sponsored by
GROUSE Whisky and ANGLING ACTIVE, 39 anglers
caught 98 fish for 215lbs, 50 of these were returned. Top team were
Crieff (Peter Auchterlonie, George Whyte and Ronald Gilbert) with
22 fish, 2nd were Bridge of Allan with 20 (Mike Willis, Alan
MacLachlan and Roy Thompson). In 3rd place were Ayr Travellers
with 16 fish ( Stuart and Danny MacCormack, John Anderson jr).
Top rod (11 fish) and qualifying for the Champions fish was Mike
Willis at Lochend with a midge tip, booby and nymphs. 2nd placed
individual Ronald Gilbert (8 fish), John Anderson (8 fish), George Whyte (7 fish) and Peter Auchterlonie (7 fish).
More info at the SANACC website.
In the third Heat of the MENTEITH BAYNES TACKLE (Callander) Boat League, Scott Millar netted
12 fish to win the heat. Second was Ronnie Robb with 11 fish. The 23 anglers netted 95 fish - mainly returned.
Scott and Ronnie were in the same boat and the tactics were Blobs, Viva booby, and diawl bachs in the Butts on a
floating line. After three heats, Mark Stevens and George Whyte share the top spot.
SANA Open In the first of the two Open Heats, 26 anglers caught and returned 106 fish. Top bag on the night
was Scott Pozzi. Top Pair were Scott Pozzi and Ivie Callison, 2nd were Graeme Connoly and Ewan Clark and third
Ian Campbell and Ken Oliver.
Please where possible can you use/recycle your own clean plastic bags to keep your fish in – as oor bag bill is
getting large.
