Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday, 30 April 2012
The following reports are for the week ending Sunday, 29 April, 2012.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) On the individual front Bill Ramage from Tillicoultry)kept
6 fish weighing 18lb 8oz,Tony Shepherd (Wishaw) 4 fish for 10lb 8oz, Hamish
Fulton (Menstrie) 2 fish weighing 5lb 4oz and released 3 and Alan Hawthorne
(Inverkeithing) had a brace that weighed in at 6lb and released a further 5. Raymond
Pirrie from Tullibody), fishing a sporting ticket, caught and released 12.
There was a good turnout of clubs last week with the Dollar A/C keeping 19 fish
weighing 40lb 12oz, Phoenix A/C 21 for 47lb 13oz, Ferranti A/C 16 fish weighing
33lb 8oz, Dunfermline Railway A/C 26 for 62lb 10oz and the K.A.H.T.S Whisker A/C
kept 40 weighing 89lb.
The best flies and lures included the Fritz Olive Damsel, Ace of Spades, Bloodworm
and Yellow Dancer whilst the best fishing area was on the north shore from the Dow
Burn to the Dam Wall.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The fishing this week at Forbes of
Kingennie has been on great form even with the really cold north and east winds. It
has been cold but the fish don't seem to notice with some great bags of fish coming
off all the ponds. The osprey has been back very regularly usually turning up twice a
day but he's not staying for long as his fishing skills have definitely improved.
The Boathouse has been very productive with some big bags of fish coming out,
the best of which fell to Mr N Prior with four fish for 28lb the best weighing in 9lb 9oz
all taken on the Damsel Nymph. A wide variety of fly patterns have been taking fish
but small Damsels have been the real killer especially when fished on a long leader
due to the high clarity of the water.
The Burnside has had a slight tinge of colour but there is about 4 to 5 feet of
visibility now and the fishing has been fantastic with fish taking about anything.
However, smaller lures have been best but Buzzers and Nymphs are being
consistent. Mr Thompson and Mr McCabe had a great session on Saturday taking
4 fish for 8lb and returning another 29 in just 4 hours - most of the fish fell to a small
Yellow Dancer.
The Bankside has been the most exposed with these strong cold winds but those
who braved the weather were rewarded with some great fishing. First time fly angler
Mr Mills went down on Saturday morning and had 2 fish for 7lb in under an hour.
The water in the Bankside is very clear at the moment and smaller flies are definitely
the way to go.
The Woodside has again has been very good with most fish falling to worms or
Powerbait. The best fish this week was caught by Mr Martin with a 3lb 4oz rainbow
taken on green Powerbait
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) S Sutherland from Edinburgh took a fine basket of 3
rainbows weighing 10lbs using a Yellow Dancer, Tommy Dickson, Dunbar, had
a nice one at 10lbs on an Okey Dokey and Jimmy Hay, Haddington, took one at
9lbs 8oz on a Yellow Dancer. G Hobbin on a visit from the north of England had a
cracking basket of 3 for 15lbs 12oz on a Cruncher, S Whitehead, Dalkeith, 3 for 9lbs
8oz on a Black Fritz and the 14 members from the Smart Building Co AC caught 88
fish retaining 33 weighing 88lbs.
4. MORTON LOCH (Livingston) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) If the weather forecast is correct the weather is going to
warm up this week so that will be good for the comfort of the anglers, who have been
very hardy this week braving the cold winds.
On Saturday the Linden FFC caught 28 fish for 69lbs 8oz with Boo Haughton
having the heaviest bag with 4 fish for 11lbs on a Gold/Pink Lure and on Sunday
6 anglers faced the cold wind to qualify for the Airflow World Bank Masters Open
Championship to be held at Elinor Trout Fishery next month and the lucky qualifier
was Malcolm Millar from Clackmannan with 16 fish on C&R and the runner up with
13 fish was Gavin Hill from Fenwick.
Also doing well last week was Jim Prentice from Tullibody with 4 fish for 10lbs,
Ron Lumsden, Rosyth, 2 fish for 6lbs on a Damsel, Harry Graham, Glenrothes, 4
for 10lbs on a Coral Fritz and Ken Moir, Dunning, 2 for 5lbs 12oz on a Dry Bibio.
Bob McGowan from Burrelton caught 2 for 5lbs on a Hare’s Lug, Bill Forsyth,
Coupar Angus, 2 for 6lbs 4oz on a Damsel, Jock Millar, Stirling, 2 for 6lbs on a Black
Fritz and Allan Morrison from Falkirk used a B lack & Green Fritz to bag 2 for 6lbs.
6. ORCHIL LOCH COARSE PONDS (Braco) NO REPORT THIS WEEK.
7. SWANSWATER (Stirling) A few big browns made an appearance in the catch
returns as the cool conditions continued throughout the week.
and overnight frosts combined to keep the water temperature at 8oC, around 4o
lower than normal for this time of year. As a result the fish are around 3 to 4 feet
down in the water and almost in “winter mode” taking mostly lures fished on an
intermediate line. Approximately 30% of fish caught this week were either Brown or
Tiger Trout, with the biggest Tiger to date, 4lb 3oz, being landed by local angler Alan
Whitton.
Damsel, Diawl Bach and Buzzer.
18 members of the Cygnets Junior Angling Club braved the cold on Sunday morning
and had a good session particularly on the Millpond where 8 different members
landed a total of 13 fish, including 3 Tigers. The newer members, who were fishing
on the Meadow Pond, are improving all the time and a few fish were lost here, due to
inexperience.
One of our lady anglers, Nan Morrison, Stirling, took the biggest fish of the week in
her 4 for 16lb, including 9lb 2oz Rainbow and 2 Tigers. John Patrick, Kilsyth 2 for
10lb 12oz including 8lb 8oz Blue, Jim Graham, Dunfermline, 3 for 11lb 8oz including
7lb Rainbow, Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, 4 for 15lb 8oz including 2 Blues, bigger one
Cold easterly winds
Favourite flies included Dancer, Tadpole, Cat’s Whisker, Ace of Spades,
at 6lb 8oz and Scott Smith, Coatbridge, 6lb Brown. Andy Henderson, Glasgow, 2 for
11lb 8oz including 5lb 12oz Blue, George Kochanek, Tullibody, 3 for 10lb including
5lb 8oz Brown and a Tiger, Alan Harvey, Glasgow, 5 Tigers for 12lb 8oz and Alan
Whitton, Stirling, 4 for 11lb 8oz including 2 Tigers for 7lb 4oz, bigger one at 4lb 3oz.
A Knox, Glasgow 4 for 10lb including 3 Tigers, Willie McAllister, Glasgow, 2 Blues for
8lb 4oz, Frank Richardson, Methil AC, 2 for 6lb 6oz including 4lb Brown and George
Ballingall, Methil AC, a Tiger and a Brown for 4lb 8oz.
