4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The wind continued to cause problems at the start of the week, but by midweek the weather had turned cool, sunny and calm with some night frosts. The better weather both brought out more anglers and woke the fish up so that there was some excellent fishing in the latter part of the week. Some superb fish in the 4lb to 6lb range were landed this week, from all three ponds, with the small ponds providing more sheltered conditions on the windier days. The water temperature remained at 4oC all week and water clarity is excellent, in fact many anglers are remarking on how clear the water is. The fish were mostly to be found around 3 to 4 feet down with the bank from the dam to the boats being the most productive area. Those fishing from boats were doing well fishing in towards the dam. Favourite fly patterns were Dancer, Blob, Black Fritz, Humungus, Diawl Bach, Black Pennell, and Black Buzzer. On the bait pond power bait and spinning were proving successful. The Fishery is open 8.00am to 5.00pm every day.
Alan Stirling, Bonnybridge, 5 for 22lb 4oz including 3 Golds, biggest one at 6lb, Stuart McKay 5 for 15lb 12oz including 2 Golds, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 15lb including 2 Golds and a Tiger, Andy Young, Inveraray, 4 for 16lb 12oz including 3 Golds and John Mooney, Queenzieburn, 4 for 13lb 12oz including 5lb Rainbow. Jim Spiers, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb including a Gold, plus 1 C&R, Ian Ramsay, Edinburgh, 3 for 9lb, Gary McDonald, Tullibody, 2 for 7lb including 4lb Gold, Pat Cassells, Cumbernauld, 2 for 7lb 6oz and Alan Hendry, Inveraray, 2 for 6lb. Jim Keyes, Cumbernauld, 4lb 8oz Rainbow, Paul Ridder caught and released 5 including a Brown and a Gold, all around 4lb, Kenny Halley caught and released 4 including 3 Golds, Ross Martin caught and released 2 and Bill Henderson caught and released 2.
On the bait pond those doing well included David Hennessy 2 for 6lb 12oz including a 4lb 8oz Gold and Svilen, Dimitar and Milchu from Bulgaria took 6 for 16lb including 5 Golds, biggest at 3lb 12oz.
6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Thankfully, the weather was much kinder last week resulting in the fishery fishing its socks off with some absolutely stunning fish coming to the net. The water quality is back to normal and although black lures are fishing best quite incredibly dries have also done pretty well. Fish of the week, an absolutely beautiful 12lbs rainbow, was caught by Johnny Curran on a self-tied Black Legged Bloodworm.
Neil McCreadie had 5 c/.r including fish of 10, 8, 5 and 4lbs, Stephen Lee on 2 visits kept 3 for 7lb and returned a further 21, B Hunter returned an 8 pounder in a catch of 4 c/r and kept 2 for 4lbs 8oz, whilst Willie McCallum, on 2 visits had 31 c/r. SCOTTISH LADIES FUNDRAISER
Fielding an international fly fishing squad along with hosting a full scale international is an hugely expensive business and this is the task faced by the SANA Ladies Section when teams from England, Ireland and Wales will fish for international medals at the end of May on the renowned Lake of Menteith fishery.
The Ladies have organised a fundraising competition to take place at Ayrshire's Waterfront fishery on the 5th of April and at £25 a head this is an absolute snip. As well as having the opportunity to fish at one of Scotland's best small stillwaters the organisers are throwing in breakfast and a hot lunch. There will be prizes for first, second and third placed anglers and some great goodies to be won in the raffle. If you would like to enter or donate a raffle prize then please contact fishery manager Cameron Dodds on 01292 571 268.
So come on you anglers and support the Scottish Ladies not only to fund their team but as host nation provide the visiting teams with an event to be remembered. You can do this by taking part in the competition or by donating a prize for the raffle.
