Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 04 November 2019. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 03 November 2019.
1. FRANDY (Gleneagles) THE FISHERY IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE 2019 SEASON
2. ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY (Braco) On Saturday morning the Falcon FFC had their last outing for this year taking 38 fish for 102 lbs with Jim Craig having the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 11lbs 12oz. The fish were mainly caught on Black & Green patterns and the Ally. Kenny McAlpine from Thurso had a brace for 13lbs – best 10lbs 8oz on a Pink Wotsit, Paul Woodcock (Musselburgh) 4 fish for 11lbs 4oz – best 6lbs on a Bunny Leach, Colin Clement (Tyndrum) 3 fish for 12lbs 8oz – best 6lbs on a Yellow Egg and J Hyndmarch from Warren took 3 fish weighing 10lbs 8oz – best 4lbs 8oz on a Dawson’s Olive. Ivor Campbell 2 fish for 9lbs on an Ally, Donald Blyth (Doune) 2 fish for 9lbs 4oz – best 5lbs 8oz on a Dunkeld, Paul Freathy (Bridge of Earn) 4 fish for 11lbs on a Bloodworm and D Milne from Falkirk used a Diawl Bach to bag a brace weighing 8lbs.
Last Sunday Joe Thain’s family held a Memorial Day raising money for Strathcarron as their nurses attended Joe in his last days for which the family were so grateful. They all fished C&R and John from Catrine in Ayrshire won with 13 fish.
Because there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. The Eagle Club from Tillicoultry had 10 fish for 36lbs 8oz with A Beverage having the top bag with 3 fish for 12lbs - best fish 6lbs on a Bloodworm. On Sunday, Alexander Buses had 21 fish for 53lbs 8oz - heaviest basket S Bennie with 4 fish 12lbs - best 4lbs 12oz on a Bright Green Buzzer, Ian Law (Paisley) 3 fish weighing 7bs 8oz on a White Fritz and Alistair Sangster from Blackford used a Damsel to take 2 for 5lbs.
Greg Lockhart from Dunblane caught a couple for 5lbs 8oz on Buzzers, G Frater (Stirling) 3 fish for 8lbs on the CDC and Damsel, Jim Linton (Moodiesburn) 8 fish for 21lbs on Blobs
and Hector Wilson from Bannockburn took 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on an Okey Dokey.

3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Although the weather has been very wet, there have still been some excellent spells of fishing. The Boathouse has been fishing well with various methods working well. Mr J Elder caught 1 fish weighing 9lbs on a stalking bug and Andrew Rutherford returned 16 fish using small Cormorant patterns. Other tactics that were effective were weighted Eggs and Bloodworms under the bung.

The Burnside Pool has fished well to fry patterns fished on the surface. Mr Thomson and Mr Westland have had a few good days fishing the washing line technique with Fabs, Buzzers and Dial Bachs on the droppers catching and releasing 24 fish.
On the Bankside Pool there has been some amazing rises but quite a challenge matching the flies they are eating but very rewarding considering the time of year it is. Mr G Anderson released 4 on dries and Mr F Sherriff also released 6 nice fish.
Powerbait fished beneath a float was again the best method on the Woodside Pool (any legal method) although spinning is beginning to sort out some of the better fish. On Tuesday after the rain Mr Andre had 4 fish for a total of 10lbs in a very short session.
Colder weather is on the way but a warm welcome awaits you at Kingennie.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The week started cold and dry with some overnight frosts and little wind. The water temperature dropped to 5oC in the middle of the week but was back up to almost 7oC by the weekend. This had the effect of moving the fish around the pond. At the start of the week they were to be found in the area from the dam to the boat jetty, with the Island and the channel the favourite spots midweek, and the area around the bridge doing best later in the week. The heavy rain on Friday night coloured the water slightly but this did not affect the fishing too much. The area around the bridge was the first to clear and fish were being caught very near the surface here on Saturday. For most of the week, most of the fish were to be found 2 to 4 feet down with the middle part of the day the best time for catching. One or two fish were caught on dry flies, but the majority were taking nymphs, wets and various lures on either floating or intermediate lines. Favourite patterns included Diawl Bach, PTN, Cormorant, Spider, Bibio, Viva, Cat’s Whisker and Dancer. On the bait pond mouse tails, wasp grubs, maggots and power bait were all doing well. The Fishery is open 7 days a week from 8.00am to 4.30pm.

The best bags on the fly ponds included Henry Fulton, Greenock, 3 for 14lb including 6lb 1oz Blue and 2 Golds, bigger one at 5lb 8oz, Alan Johnston, Neilston, 4 for 11lb including 2 Golds, Willie Nyguist, Stirling, 4 for 11lb including 3 Golds, James Elliott, Stirling, 4 for 10lb 8oz including 3 Golds and Andy Duffin, Cowie, 3 for 10lb including 2 Golds. Kieran Lydon, Alva, 3 for 9lb, plus 4 C&R, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 3 for 8lb including 2 Golds, plus 6 C&R including a Brown, Jim Allan, Kilsyth, 2 for 6lb 12oz including 4lb 4oz Rainbow, Ian Whitfield, Denny, in two visits, 4 for 12lb 4oz including 3 Golds and Matthew Fulton, Greenock, 2 for 6lb including a Gold. William Mountford 2 for 5lb, plus 3 C&R, Stephen Murphy caught and released 12 including 5 Golds and a Tiger, Craig McIlhone caught and released 4, Tam Clark caught and released 3 and Bill Henderson caught and released 3. James McInally caught and released a Brown around 5lb.
On the bait pond, as usual, several anglers took one fish but those doing better included, Lee Hunt 4 for 11lb, James Plenderleith 4 for 10lb including a Gold, Callum McKay 4 for 9lb 4oz including a Tiger, David Hennessey 2 for 4lb 8oz including a Blue and Iain Fern 3 for 8lb including a Gold. Scott Douglas and Finn took 2 for 4lb including a Tiger.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Some cracking big fish came off last week as the following catches show with the best results are coming from green and black patterns fished deeper as the water gets much colder. Mr Wright from Kilsyth had 3 rainbows and a blue weighing 9lbs 6oz, Mr Taggart 3 at 14lbs, Joe MacArthur from Glasgow took 5 for 22 lbs – largest at 10lbs, Stevie McDonald (Airdrie) 6 C/R and Stevie Parker had 4 on C/R. Mr Gordon kept 4 weighing 10lbs, Ian Anderson from Cumbernauld 5 C/R, Derek McCann (Glasgow) 4 for 14lb, J.Dunsmore (Glasgow) retained 3 for 9lbs 8oz and returned 7, Mr Enzo (Glasgow) 4 weighing 10lbs 8oz and Mr Fitzpatrick from Kilsyth had 5 C/R.
