2. ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY (Braco) The water has cooled down but the very changeable weather also dictates the depth the fish are taking on and that is varying from surface drives down to deep fished lures. S Shreter from Doune had 2 fish for 11lbs – best a cracker of 9lbs on a Damsel, K Lacey (Perth) 3 fish for 9lbs on a Green Damsel, John Score (Alloa) 3 fish for 9lbs 8oz on an Ally and I Stewart from Comrie used Buzzers to bag a brace weighing 6lbs 8oz. Jim Gray from Denny had 3 fish for 9lbs on Nymphs and Kong from Crieff took a couple weighing 6lbs 8oz on a Yellow Dancer.
Because there is so much natural feeding in the water right now the fish are being attracted by bright colours so flies and lures incorporating bright green, red, yellow and orange are all doing well. 3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) With the weather being more settled and temperatures starting to fall we are looking forward to some excellent days on the water. Please note that on Sunday 29 September we host Rosyth Civil Service Club and the Boathouse and Burnside Pools will be CLOSED until around 1600hrs.
With very clear water conditions the best catches on the Boathouse Pool have been on relatively small patterns i.e. Buzzers, Dries and Diawl Bachs. Bob Anderson caught 3 rainbows for 7lbs 6ozs and Mr Hogg returned a fine rainbow of 11lbs amongst his catch of 5 fish. The Burnside Pool has seen plenty of surface activity and some good catches on dry fly patterns and buzzers. Mr Lafferty caught 4 fish for 10lbs, Grant Burnett returned 9 fish and Ken Jones released 8 including a nice solid rainbow of 8lbs. Nick Soave enjoyed two excellent sessions on the Bankside Pool taking 5 fish for a total of 10lbs, followed by 4 fish for 17lbs including rainbows of 6lbs 8oz and 6lbs 4oz and on the catch and release side Peter Thompson returned 7 fish in a morning session. The Woodside Pool has fished steady with the usual Powerbait being the fish’s downfall.
This past week of hot weather here at Forbes of Kingennie is seeing a change in the fishes behaviour, as the water temperatures rise they have been a bit fussy at times but when the cloud comes over and cools down the sport at times has been outstanding. Different ponds have been fishing better at different times so moving around has been essential for constant results.
The Bankside pool has been the stand out pond these last few days with lots of anglers having great returns in sometimes trick conditions. The water has become very clear recently and really helped with the returns. Buzzers have been the top method fished either under the bung with an egg or squirmy on the point fished at 5 feet. The washing line has also been effective when the fish are a bit higher in the water. Dry flies have also been worth a cast at points when they have been very active. Mr Kirk had 12 fish and 13 fish in 2 consecutive trips on fabs, buzzers and diawls bachs. His best fish was estimated at around 12lb as well as others of 5 and 7lb. Mr Jones had 12 on black buzzers under and indicator. Mr Birse had 13 on a sugar cube shipman’s.
The Burnside has also been getting very clear with lots of fish visible on the surface cruising around. The fishing has been a little bit slower at times but fishing very well most evenings. Again the more natural approach has taken more fish, The washing line with wee buzzers is the go to method. Dries are doing well in the right conditions when they come up. Mr Westland had 21 on size 14 black buzzers and fabs. Mr Wilson had 2 for 6lb and put back 9 fishing diawl bachs.
The Boathouse has been a bit coloured but on the very sunny days it has been the best pond with huge amounts of fish taking off the surface in the shade. Mr Leslie had a great day returning around 20 fish on small dries and emerges. Mr Fulthorpe had a good morning landing 8 up to 7lb on a pink fab and diawl bachs. Mr Whiteford kept his 3 fish for 8lb and put back 6 on a damsel.
The Woodside pool has been really busy in the nice weather with many full bags being recorded. Green powerbait and spinners have been the top bait of late. Over the weekend there was a total of 37 anglers landed 68 fish for weight of 115lb.
4. MARKLE (East Lothian) Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had three visits last week catching 11 fish in total including specimens of 8lbs, 7lbs 4oz and another at 8lbs on Bloodworm and lures. John Daly from Edinburgh had a couple of outings taking 9 on the Yellow Dancer, Davy Smith (Dunbar) 2 on a Black & Green Rabbit – best 5lbs, Davy Bullen (Edinburgh( 5 on the Blob, Bob Sleight (Edinburgh) 2 and returned a further two 6lb fish whilst John Thomson from Edinburgh had 3 on Buzzers – heaviest 8lbs 4oz.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The continued drop in water temperature at the start of the week led to some really good fishing with lots of tigers and browns once again featuring in the catch returns. it was a fairly quiet week angler numbers wise but those heading out early on in the week were rewarded with some good sport, with the majority of the fish being caught in the top 3 feet of water. Those venturing out in the nicer weather on Friday also had a lot of success but by Saturday the bright sun and slight rise in water temperature meant the fish had gone deeper and were harder to tempt. The fish are widespread in Swanswater with no areas appearing to hold more fish than others. Best fly patterns were Dancer, Cat, Montana, Pheasant Tail, buzzer and Stalking bug. Maggots were the most successful on the bait pond, with lots of different species featuring highly in the catch returns.
Best bags on the fly included Alex Wilkie, Glasgow, 5 for 16lb 4oz including a Gold a Blue and 2 Browns, Donald McMurchie, Fallin, 4 for 16lb 12oz including 3 Golds, biggest 5lb 12oz and 5lb 4oz, Frank Barr, Falkirk, 4 for 12lb including a gold, Gordon Ferguson, Coatbridge, 3 for 10lb 4oz including 5lb Rainbow and 2 Golds and Davy Quinn, Dunfermline, 3 for 9lb. Willie MacFadyen, Stirling, 3 for 8lb 4oz including 2 Tigers, Jim Craig, 3 for 8lb including a Blue and a Brown, Henry Fulton, Greenock, 2 for 8lb 8oz including 6lb 8oz Blue, Robert Watt, Glasgow, 2 for 6lb 12oz and Ross Martin, Stirling, 2 for 6lb including a Blue and a Gold. Gary Frater, 2 for 6lb and Steven Niblo, 3 caught and released including a Gold estimated at 10lb
Best bags on bait came from Steven and Reece Donachie, 4 for9lb including a Gold, a Tiger and a Brown, Ian McLeod 3 for 6lb 8oz including a Gold and a Brown, Frank Mooney, 3 for 6lb including a Gold and 2 Tigers, Euan Henderson, Dumbarton, 2 for 6lb 8oz including 4lb 4oz Blue and Mark Anderson, 2 for 5lb including a Blue and a Gold.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) The mixed weather at present is seeing the catches coming from all sorts of tactics with some guys doing really well on the surface with the likes of very small Grunters whilst others are getting them that bit deeper on bigger offerings. As usual the average weight is really tip top and plenty of the big Woodburn bruisers are featuring in the baskets. Don Stewart from Lenzie had 14 c/r mostly on the Grunter, S Walker (Glasgow) 2 c/r largest 7lbs, John Conway 2 c/r biggest 6lbs, Peter Clark (Kilsyth) 12 c/r, A Fisher (Kilsyth) 2 for 6lbs 11oz and Mr. Kevins had 2 c/r – best 13lbs.
