3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The improvement in the weather has resulted in better hatches of buzzers and some excellent catches have been taken.
Liam Kirk showed the way on the Boathouse Pool with two superb returns within a few days of each other. The first outing produced 10 fish on catch and return but the second eclipsed that by far....returning 20 fish with the best two estimated at 14lbs (an exceptionally deep fish with huge shoulders) and one at 12lbs. Other decent catches were 9 fish released by both Mr. Hogg and Andy Rutherford. The water clarity is excellent now and small dries, Buzzers and Diawl Bachs have all worked their magic. On the Bankside Pool buzzers and various nymph patterns have had the majority of the success. Ken Jones returned 10 and then went onto the Bankside to release a further 7 fish. Mr. Dair had 8 on a catch and release ticket with most taking a white lure. On the big fish side of things Ian Gordon returned 4 fish including one estimated at 10+lbs and Mr. Duncan had another at 8lbs. The Kilsyth Fishing Club visited the Bankside last Saturday and their overall result was 21 fish for a total of 61lbs 8oz with the best bag being four fish weighing 17lbs 8oz. On the catch and release front Jock Leslie returned 9 fish; Grant Burnett released 8 with the best estimated at 11lbs and Bradie Heggie returned 7 in a short evening session. Davie Wilson took two nice rainbows weighing 6lbs. Spinning produced the best results on the Woodside Pool (any legal method) this week, with Pieter taking five rainbows for a total of 9lbs. Float fished Powerbait also did reasonably well as Mr. Treen proved by catching three rainbows for a combined weight of 5lbs 12oz.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a great week for very healthy size specimens turning up in the excellent baskets. John Thomson from East Linton had 6 on a Black & Green Lure – best 6lbs, Jackie Hay, Haddington, 1 for 11lbs on a Black Spider, Dave Stevenson, Loanhead, 3 for 11lbs – heaviest 9lbs, John Daly, Edinburgh, 4 on a Yellow Dancer and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had 6 – best 8lbs on Buzzers. Kenny Morrison from Edinburgh used a Dancer to bag one at 7lbs 8oz and C Barrett had a brace weighing 11lbs – the heaviest tipping the scales at 8lbs 8oz. On the angling club front the Arniston AC had 15 fish for 41lbs and Airdrie AC had 20 fish on catch and release.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Spring seemed to arrive this week and the warmer weather saw a rise in water temperature from 6oC at the beginning of the week to 10oC by the weekend.   As a result the fish were higher in the water and were active in the top 3 feet.   They were also well spread out all round the main area of Swanswater.   The bright sun on Saturday put them down a little but there were still plenty being caught.   A wide variety of flies was taking fish with favourite patterns ranging from lures such as Dancer, Ally McCoist and Cat’s Whisker, through nymphs such as Diawl Bach, Hare’s Ear and Olive nymph to various wet flies including Bibio, Black Pennell, and Spider.  Bloodworm and Buzzers were also successful and overall the best colour was olive.   The Browns and Tigers obviously enjoyed the warmer weather with some cracking examples landed.   Several more were returned and they continue to provide a lot of sport for those looking for different varieties of trout. The Fishery is currently open from 8.00am to 9.00pm every day
