Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 27 November 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 26 November 2017.

1. FRANDY (Gleneagles). NOW CLOSED UNTIL MARCH 2018

2. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) On Saturday the Falcon FFC had a freezing cold morning for their outing but despite that managed to catch 61 fish for 196lbs 12oz with Kevin Halson taking the heaviest basket with 4 fish for 20lbs 8oz on a Damsel including a whopping 11lbs rainbow. Harry Graham from Glenrothes had a fish weighing 7lbs on an Okey Dokey, Allan Weir, Bannockburn, 3 fish for 11lbs 8oz on a Taz, Sonia Leyton, Stirling, 2 fish for 6lbs on a Bug and Steven Butler from Falkirk took 3 fish for 12lbs on a Damsel. Jim Jarvie from Larbert used a Red Buzzer to catch 4 fish for 12lbs, G McCulloch, Armadale, 4 fish for 13lbs on Buzzers, Tam Butler, Bo’ness, 3 fish weighing 9lbs 8oz on a Poodle and Hector Wilson from Bannockburn had 3 for 9lbs 8oz on an Okey Dokey.

3. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Although the colder weather has arrived there has still been some excellent catches recorded. Probably the most successful method was using the indicator. Okey Dokey, Bloodworm and various patterns of Damsels were the preferred patterns. On the Boathouse Mr. Burnett returned 10 ; Ron Gray returned 9 (taken on Diawl Bachs and Black Rabbits) and Mr. Low took two fish for 10lbs 12oz with the better fish weighing 8lbs. Several fish have still been taken on dry flies. The Burnside has been a bit temperamental recently but Jock Leslie certainly found the answer to return 21 fish, whilst Ed Valentine returned 15. George Birse also did well with 12 fish on catch/release. Some of the better fishing has been on the Bankside where Frank Sherriff returned 12 fish and Ian Gordon returned 9. Mr. Fotherington took four fish for 10lbs 8oz and the best fish of the week was a superb brownie taken on a dry fly by Ian Barlow and estimated at 7lbs+. Anglers on the any legal method pool, the Woodside, enjoyed a couple of days of excellent fishing. On Monday eight anglers took 36 fish for a combined total of 101lbs. To follow this on Wednesday six anglers landed 18 fish for 44lbs. Most were taken on float fished Powerbait, although some fell to ledgered bait. Mr. Campbell, fishing the fly, took an excellent rainbow weighing 7lbs 8oz.

4. MARKLE (East Lothian) It has been quiet due to the cold weather but despite this the fishing has been good for those who turned out. Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh had a couple of visits taking 5 on lures on one and 3 including a cracking 11lb rainbow on a Bloodworm. Also doing well was Neil Raeburn from Musselburgh with 5 on Blobs and Buzzers, David Bullen, Edinburgh, 6 on a Diawl Bach, Kenny Morrison, Edinburgh, 5 on Bloodworm, C Saunders, Edinburgh 7 on Bloodworm and Dave Smith from Dunbar used Bloodworm to take 4.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Similar to last week, there was a slight rise in water temperature midweek, after the rain.   The water also clouded slightly but soon cleared and the temperature dropped back to 3oC by the end of the week.   Despite the low water temperature, the lack of the strong cold wind meant that the fish were surprisingly high in the water on Sunday when sink tips were doing the job as opposed to intermediates for most of the rest of the week.   A slow retrieve was required all week to attract fish to a variety of lures and nymphs with favourite patterns being Bloodworm, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzers, Dancer, Cat’s Whisker and White Fritz. The 20th Annual Charity Competition in aid of Strathcarron Hospice, will take place on Wednesday 27th December.   More details to follow in the next week or so.
A selection of anglers doing well this week included George Garfoot, Gairloch, 4 for 12lb 8oz including a Gold, Graeme Arthur, Stirling, 3 for 10lb 8oz including 4lb 8oz Gold, plus 2 C&R, Andy Tervit, Paisley, 3 for 9lb 2oz including 2 Golds, Richard Skinner, Milton of Campsie, 3 for 9lb including a Blue and Alec Harvey 3 Golds for 8lb 12oz including 2 from the Meadow Pond.
