5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Fishing conditions were good last week with the water remaining very clear and any weeds being kept under control; the temperature rose from 14oC to 15.5oC. However, as is common at this time of year the fishing was not easy despite the fish being very active and being seen moving on the surface of the water. Most were taken in the top 2 to 3 feet although the strong wind at the weekend put them down a bit deeper. A fast retrieve on a floating or intermediate line was the best tactic, with midge tip lines proving popular and effective. Various dry flies were working well on the small ponds and in the evenings, with the usual nymphs, wets and occasional lure doing the business through the day on Swanswater. Favourite patterns included Dancer, Damsel, Buzzer, Diawl Bach, Cruncher, Bumble, Kate McLaren, Bibio, Black Spider, Gnat, and Hopper
