Fish
are getting caught from sandy bay round to Malling shore , Cages,
international bay and over in the Butts. Floating or midge tip are
the better lines. Flies include Yellow owls, Blue damsels, Diawl
bachs, boobies and yellow fabs. This resident fish of about 5lb was
caught today by John McEwan from Perth he caught it of a Rainbow
warrior on a midge tip line.
On
Thursday we hosted the Scottish heats of the Anglian Water
International competition. The Day heat had 10 teams of 6 aiming to
get to the final on Rutland. There were 328 fish caught. Top team was
Change Fly fisher ac, they caught 53 fish for 119lb, also joining
them at Rutland are Gateside Flycasters, they had 37 fish for 88lb
and 3rd
was Leven Flycasters with 39 fish for 80lb. Top rod was Stewart
Barclay (Gateside Flycasters )he had his 10 fish by11:55 am. 2nd
was Ray Anderson he caught his 10 fish at 2pm.Heaviest fish went to
Allan Caistley from Butcher boy angling with a nice fish weighing
5lnb 12oz. On the evening heat 6 teams competed for 2 places in the
final. There were 198 fish caught. Top team was Neilston Flyfishers
with 41 fish for 90lb. A close 2nd
with the same number of fish but weighing 3lb less was Menteith
Osperys. Top rod was James Litster he caught his 10 fish by 9:05 pm,

was Alan Steven he caught his 10 fish by 10:30. Heaviest fish was
caught by Colin MacDonald weighing 5lb 2oz. (pic, winning evening

What looked like perfect conditions for the start of heat 6 of the
Scottish Club Championships it proved once again to be a hard session
on the Lake of Menteith. With plenty fish rising and showing a bit of
interest they just wouldn’t take what the anglers had to offer,
coming short and turning away at the last minute. Best methods on the
night was boobies, blobs and cormorants. The top 3 teams qualified
for the first semifinal on the 18th August
are. 1st place
St Boswell Newton & Dist AA with 8 fish for 18lb 10.3oz 2nd place
Caurnie AC with 8 fish for 17lb 1.3oz 3rd place
Bothwell & Blantyre AC “A” with 6 fish for 13lb 5.8oz. The
top 5 anglers going through to the Champion of Champions are
1st Grant
Gibson with 5 fish for 11lb 14.6oz 2nd Jackie
Naismith 3 fish for 7lb 1.8 oz 3rd Paul
Gliwinski 3
fish for 6lb 14.7oz 4th Alisdair
Mair 3 fish for 6lb 9.7oz 5th Jim
Twaddle 3 fish for 6lb 4.7oz The best fish of the night fell to Chris
Mullholland a lovely 4lb 1.1oz rainbow. The top club, top angler and
captor of the best fish all received a bottle of whisky from our
sponsor Loch Lomond distillery.
2017
Boat League Results.
On heat 6 24 anglers took to the water on what looked a promising
night with a lot of fish moving but the fish thought otherwise as
they would feed on the Canis instead of fishing flies.94 fish were
caught with Bill Ramage scoring his 3rd win of this year’s league
with 9 fish, he caught his first fish at 6:35 beating Alec Galloway
into 2nd place will also 9 fish but he caught his first fish later at
8:40 Third was Brian MacKenzie with 8 fish. Best methods were Cats
whiskers with snatchers and cormorants on a midge tip line and dries
on a floater. Areas were cages plantation and Katie's brae. This
week’s prizes went to Alec he gets the £25 voucher from James
Bayne Tackle shop in Callander and Brian gets the bottle of whisky
from Andy Smith of Southside decorators.
