Fishing report by Jim Boyd

JIM BOYD - angling journalist/photographer

Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 30 January 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 29 January 2017.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) There were some very cold days last week with the wind being the worst of it at times.   The water has been fishing very well on the top half with buzzers and various coloured Fritz patterns. Jim Linton from Moodiesburn had 4 fish for 17lbs 12oz – best 7lbs on a Wotsit, Gavin Wilson, Edinburgh, 3 for 11lbs on Buzzers, C Meiklejohn, Stirling, 1 for 7lbs on a Fab, Laurie Rumgay, Perth, 2 for 9lbs on an Orange Lure and Ronnie Stanovich from Glasgow 2used a Damsel to bag a brace weighing 10lbs. T Wright from Edinburgh took 3 for 11lbs – best 5lbs on a Damsel, Greg Hogan, Stirling, 3 for 15lbs – best 6lbs on Bugs and William Dunnachie from Cumbernauld caught 2 for 7lbs on a Black Cat.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) It was a mixed week, weather-wise, with some mild days and some frosty ones.   The water temperature dropped back down to 3oC and the fish were generally deeper than the previous week, mostly around 3 to 4 feet down in Swanswater, although still in the top couple of feet in the Meadow Pond.   The island and the boats continue to be the best areas to fish although the dam is also productive.   Lures such as Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Ally McCoist, Blobs and other Fritz patterns were the favourite patterns this week with Buzzers, Bloodworm, Cormorant, and Damsel also taking fish.  The Meadow Pond continues to fish well and is a popular venue when things are getting a bit tough on the main pond. The Fishery is still open every day from 8.00am to 4.30pm
