Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 09 January 2017. The report is for the week ending Sunday, 08 January 2017.

1. FRANDY (Glendevon). The fishery is now closed for the 2016 season.

2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK

3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a quiet week but those who ventured out had good sport. Jack Hay from Haddington took 3 for 13lbs on a Black & Green Rabbit, Northumbrian visitors Rod Frame and Peter Davidson to 7 and 6 fish respectively, both used Buzzers and Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh used a Bloodworm to catch 3. Neil Raeburn from Edinburgh had 6 on a Rabbit and Tom Russell Jnr, from Earlston caught 5 on Buzzers.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been a good start to the year with many anglers getting out with the unseasonable weather - much better than being snowed in.  The depth the fish were being caught depended on the wind but plenty of fish have been
taken on the Diawl Bach, Cat, Damsel, Bloodworm, Buzzers and various colours of
Fritz patterns. Keith Johnston from Airdrie lost quite a few fish during his session but 10 minutes before he was going to leave he caught a lovely 10lbs Rainbow on an Apps Bloodworm. Hector Wilson from Bannockburn had 3 for 14lbs – best 6lbs on a Green & Black Fritz, Gerry Kane, Cumbernauld, 3 for 12lbs on a Black Fritz, William Kane, Airdrie, 2 for 8lbs 8oz on an Orange Fritz and Ian Conn from Tillicoultry took 3 for 11lbs on a Black & Green Fritz. David Drummond, from Tillicoultry had 3 fish for 12lbs – best 5lbs on a Black & Green Fritz, Bill Dawson, dollar, 2 for 7lbs 8oz on a Mini Cat, David Duncan, Slamannan 2 for 7lbs on a Black Dancer C Meiklejohn form          Stirling used a Black & Red Buzzer to catch a brace weighing 6lbs 8oz. Stewart Cairns from Perth had 2 weighing 8lbs on a Cut Throat Cat, Jake Munroe, Perth, 2 for 6lbs 8oz on a Cut Throat Cat and Rab Stevenson from Newarthill took 3 for 12lbs on a Diawl Bach.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) For most of the week, fish were being caught at all depths from 6 inches to 6 feet, although the hard frost on Wednesday night and all day Thursday sent them down.   The biggest problem on Thursday was not finding where the fish were, but stopping rod eyes from freezing up!   The rest of the week was relatively mild and with the water temperature at 6oC at the start of the week the fish were still very active.   The Goldies are still being seen in the water and anglers are enjoying a lot of sport targeting these highly visible fish.   The dam, the island and the bridge area were the most productive, with a number of fish also being taken from the roadside at the weekend.   The boats were also doing well at certain times.   Small lures, nymphs and wet flies were all catching this week with small flies, particularly Cormorant and Diawl Bach, doing well on the coldest day of the week.   In general the favourite patterns were Dancer, Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Bloodworm, Buzzer, Hare’s Ear, Snatcher and Black Pennell. The Fishery is still open every day from 8.00am to 4.30pm.
There were a lot of great bags this week and here are the best of them: Frank Barr, Falkirk, in three visits, 11 for 35lb 4oz including 3 Blues and 4 Golds, biggest one at 4lb 8oz, plus 4 C&R, Lee Currie, Bannockburn, also visiting 3 times, 9 for 25lb 4oz including 3 Golds and a Blue, plus 2 C&R and Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 Golds for 17lb 8oz, plus 2 C&R.
