Fishing report by Jim Boyd
ANGLING PRESS SERVICES
Issued by Jim Boyd on behalf of the following fisheries on Monday 31 October 2016. The report is for the week ending Sunday,30 October 2016.
1. FRANDY (Glendevon). The fishery is now closed for the 2016 season.
2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) NO REPORT THIS WEEK
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) Mick Mulgrew from Danderhall had 11 on a Pink Duck, Derek Smith, Dunbar, 7 on a Diawl Bach, R Thom, Haddington, 4 on lures and Neil Raeburn from Edinburgh used a Buzzers to take 6. Lindsay Learie from Edinburgh had 6 on a Black & Green Rabbit and George Charters took 4 on Buzzers.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The weather has been lovely for the time of year with the water fishing well again with dries to lures catching but the fish are doing a lot of tail nipping just under the surface to about 2 feet!
Dean Parker had a great day on Saturday catching 3 fish for 18lbs 8oz – the best a lovely 10 pounder and also a 6lb 8oz fish on a Muddler. Last week Andy Airnes from Clackmannan, on his first visit after having an operation, was worried about being able to fish but landed a beauty that tipped the scales at 10lbs. Ian Sloan, Almondbank, 4 for 9lbs on a Yellow Owl, Boo Haughton, Stirling, 3 for 12lbs on a Yellow Dancer, Hamish Aitken, Stirling, 3 for 9lbs 8oz on a Green Head Dancer, John Gilchrist, Stirling, 3 for 9lbs 8oz on an Ally and Greg Lockhart from Dunblane took a brace for 5lbs 12oz on a College Girl & Boy. A Laing from Carluke had 4 for 11lbs 12oz on a Daddy, Brian Logan, Alloa, 2 for 6lbs 8oz on Buzzers, Ken Clark, Lochgelly, 3 for 9lbs 4oz on Buzzers and Jim Linton from Moodiesburn took 4 for 14lbs on a Pink Lure. Dougie Allan from Callander used a Yellow Dancer to take a brace weighing 7lbs 8oz and Bob Ross, Kinross, had 2 for 9lbs 8oz on a Humungus.
5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) The fishing continued to be excellent all week culminating in a bumper day on Sunday when over 130 fish were caught. The fish are still well spread out round the pond and were in the top couple of feet at the beginning of the week, going a little deeper by the weekend. If there were any hotpots, they were along the bank from the dam to the boats and also on the island, although there were fish caught all over the main area of Swanswater. The fish were very active and looking for something to chase. The majority of fish were taken on mini lures during the week, including Cat, Dancer and Cormorant. At the weekend the fish were also taking nymphs and buzzers with a slower retrieve.
Mark Kenyon, Menstrie, in four visits, 9 for 32lb 8oz including 7lb 8oz Rainbow, 4 Golds and 3 Blues and 5 for 10lb from the Millpond, John Forbes, Rutherglen, 8lb Rainbow, John Kearney, Broxburn, 5 for 17lb 8oz including 3 Golds, biggest at 4lb 4oz, plus 11 C&R, John Score, Alloa, 5 for 16lb including 2 Golds and Frank Barr, Falkirk, in two visits, 9 for 27lb 4oz including a Blue and 7 Golds plus 2 C&R. Alan Stirling, Bonnybridge, 5 for 15lb 8oz, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 15lb 2oz including 4 Golds and a Blue, plus 4 C&R, John Montague, Glasgow, 5 for 15lb including 3 Golds and 1 Blue, plus 3 Browns C&R, George Dobbie, Glasgow, 4 for 14lb including a Gold and Stevie Goodlad, Windygates, 4 for 13lb 12oz including 2 Golds, bigger one at 4lb 4oz. Les Robertson, Windygates, 4 for 12lb 12oz, Ian Whitelaw, Dunipace, 4 for 12lb, including 2 light Blues and a 2 Golds, Bobby Muirhead, Windygates, 4 for 11lb 10oz including 2 Golds and a Blue, Jim Wilson, Coatbridge, 3 for 9lb 8oz including a Blue and 2 golds and Robert Nimmo, Stirling, 3 for 9lb 4oz including a Gold and a Blue plus 3 C&R. George Kochanek, Sauchie, 3 for 9lb including a Gold, Billy Weir, Bannockburn, 2 Golds for 7lb 8oz, bigger one at 4lb, Stuart McKay, Bathgate, 2 Golds for 6lb 8oz, Peter Haggarty, 5lb 8oz Rainbow, Kevin Gray, Camelon, caught and released 20 and Les Cooper, Dunblane, caught and released 8.
6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) The best taking flies last week included Dries, Olive Rabbit, Buzzers, Yellow Dancer and the Blue Buzzer. There were plenty of big fish included in the baskets last week with A Mitchell from Stirling taking a great brace weighing 12lbs, A Wright, Kilsyth, 3 for 16lbs, Robin Hood, Kilsyth, 1 blue at 4lbs, J Wright, Stirling, 4 weighing 24lbs, D Wright, Stirling, 3 for 17lbs and Mr Graham, Lenzie, 3 for 16lbs – best 6lbs. John Shaw from Kilsyth took 4 for 22lbs – largest 6lbs, Joe Hunter, Glasgow, 4 for 14lbs, J. Hengrew, Paisley, 3 for 15lbs, Mr Whiteford, Glasgow, 1 for 6lbs and Craig Smith from Helensburgh had 2 for 10lbs.
James Mackie, Glasgow, 2 for 10lbs, Gerry Hendry, 13 on C/R for 80lb, Mr Abraham, Lennoxtown, 2 for 8lbs – best 5lbs, Mr Lamb, Kirkintilloch, 1 for 4lbs, Mr Gibbon, Glasgow, 1 for 4lbs 8oz and Mr Mitchell from Stirling 3 for 13lb plus 4 returned.
