2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) With Autumn well and truly upon us the fishing has been improving with a real mix of methods taking fish. There have been good returns of fish on everything from big lures on a sunken line, buzzers on the washing line and up to tiny dries. The Boathouse has still been holding a bit of colour but still fishing really well. The best flies on here have been a white lure, black Buzzers, Okey Dokey, bright Fabs, Squirmies and Dries. Mr Connell had 12 on a green Okey Dokey. Mr Soave had 3 for 11lb with the biggest being 6lb 4oz.The Burnside has been very busy and as a result some days has seen the fish being very selective with very wee dries being the key to a good days sport. Floating Fry, various patterns under the bung and again white lures have been the best options. Mr Birse had 11 on a small fry. Mr Watson had 13 on a Blob under the bung. Over the weekend we had Rosyth Civil Service AC out over the 2 ponds and did very well keeping 12 fish for 27lb and returning another 170 fish up to 10lb with several in the 5-8lb range between the 24 anglers. The Woodside has been fishing exceptionally well with 38 anglers over the weekend landing 74 fish. The largest was taken by Mr Jackson weighing 5lb 7oz taken on Powerbait.
A fundraising competition will be held on the Boathouse and Burnside on the 16th of October to help raise funds for the Scottish Stillwater fly fishing team going to Wales at the end of October. Anyone who would like to participate in it or for more details should call 01382 350777.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) It was a very quiet week due to the changeable weather but that didn’t stop Bruce Hunter from Edinburgh catching 12 on various lures. Jack Hay from Haddington had 5 on a Dark Rabbit – best 5lbs 8oz, Stewart Grieve, Edinburgh, used a Yellow Dancer to taken 6  and Dave Smith from Dunbar had 5 on a Diawl Bach. The Irvine Watersports AC had a good two day outing catching 24 for 58lbs on day one and on day two they bagged 16 for 37lbs 8oz – various lures and Rabbits did the business.

4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) The water is still warm so it is very   mixed lot of flies that are catching fish. Bill Syme from the Diageo Retirement Assoc. had a fantastic brace weighing 12lbs 8oz – best fish tipping the scales at 9lbs 12oz. Barry Hamilton from Glasgow took a couple for 9lbs on an Ally, W. Bryson, Kirkintilloch, 3 for 9lbs on a Daddy, Billy Edwards, Aberfeldy, 3 for 10lbs 8oz on an Ace of Spades and Graham King from Almondbank took 2 for 10lbs on a Yellow Dancer. Robert Kettles from Perth used a Black Fritz to bag 2 for 5lbs, Connor Meiklejohn, Stirling, 2 for 10lbs – best 6lbs on a Cat, Jack Gibb, Clackmannan, 2 for 8lbs on a HH Damsel, Rab Wright, Kippen took 3 for 9lbs on a Damsel and Mark Brownrigg from Callander had a brace weighing 10lbs 12oz on an Ally.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) A mixed week of weather led to some mixed results in the fishing at Swanswater. Earlier in the week the warmer, brighter and calmer days proved tougher and the fish were lying deeper than normal, around 4 to 5 feet. Midweek onwards proved an upturn in fortunes, topped off by an incredible day on Wednesday, this was when temperatures dropped a little, the cloud cover rolled in, accompanied by heavy spells of rain and a stronger breeze.  Fish returned to more normal depths of around 2 to 3 feet and were more active.
Many golden trout continue to feature in the returns, as the average size of them continues to rise. Areas around the Dam and island fished best and it was a good week for mini lures such as Dancer, Cat, Damsel, and Zonker. Buzzers also took a lot of fish, particularly during the middle of the week, with the odd nymph such as Diawl Bach and P.T.N and wets like Kate McLaren also working when fish were higher in the water. As mentioned, for several weeks now, in our reports and on our Facebook page as well as at the fishery we continue to stock a large number of “strange” coloured trout. These highly visible trout seem to be causing some confusion as anglers are still not aware of what they are both catching and seeing in the ponds. One angler when asked if his fish was a Rainbow replied ‘yes but it’s kinda yellow’…it was a GOLD!
Frank Barr, Falkirk, 8 for 20lb 8oz including a 4lb Rainbow, a Blue and 4 Golds, Tam Baillie, Kincardine, 6 for 16lb 12oz including 4 Golds, in 2 visits, Willie Martin, Stirling, 5 for 12lb 12oz including 2 Golds, Greg Donaldson, Alloa, 5 for 12lb 12oz including a Blue and a Gold and Danny Doherty, Denny, 4 for 14lb 4oz including a 6lb 10oz Rainbow. George Dobbie, Glasgow, 4 for 11lb 8oz, Paul Pathmore, Edinburgh, 4 for 10lb, Donald McMurchy, Fallin, 3 for 12lb 4oz including a 6lb 12oz rainbow and 2 Golds, Alan Prentice, Clackmannan, 3 for 14lb including a 8lb 12oz Rainbow and a Gold and Robert Smith, Falkirk, 3 for 8lb including 2 Golds. Robert Park, Lennoxtown, 3 for 8lb including a Gold, Cameron Halley, West Linton, 2 for 6lb including a Gold, Ian Fitzpatrick, Durham, 23 caught and released in 2 visits and Andy Cook, Durham, 19 caught and released in 2 visits. Geoff Gilbert, Isle of Man, 39 caught and released over the week.

6. WOODBURN (Milton of Campsie) Top of the water sport is still the best right now but as the water temperature starts to cool down small black and green lures will be worth a swim. There were some excellent catches last week with Mr McKenna from Bearsden including a belter of 10lbs in his catch and release bag of 10 fish. Also amongst the big fish was Kevin Kerr who had 4 – best 8lbs and Peter Tanner from Kilsyth had 3 for 18lbs with the best tipping the scales at 7lbs 8oz. Danny McLaughlin from Clydebank took 1 for 4lbs, Scott Murphy, Glasgow, 3 on C+R, D McCallum, Balloch, 4 for 15lbs, John Greg, Glasgow, 3 for 10lbs and Mr Crombie from Uddingston took 2 for 6lbs. John Shaw from Kilsyth had 4 for 12lbs and returned 4, Billy Buchan, Lenzie, 5 on C+R, James Tullis, Milton of Campsie, 3 for 8lbs and Mr Mallan from Glasgow took 4 for 12lbs.
