2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) The ponds would really benefit from a drop more rain, with water-levels in the Bankside Pool being especially low. However, some excellent catches have been recorded during the week. The best fishing has been early morning or late evening with there generally being a low spell in the middle of the day. Main man on the Boathouse Pool was John Crowther who released seventeen fish in just over an hour! Mr. Connell released sixteen fish and Messrs. Leslie and Steven both returned fourteen fish each. Mr. Williams took two rainbows for a total of 8lbs with the bigger fish weighing in at 6lbs. Nearly all the best catches have been taken on Buzzers. The Burnside Pool has again fished steadily. George Birse returned thirteen on a Floating Fry and Craig Dixon returned twelve taken mainly on Dries and Buzzers. There has been a lot of early morning surface activity and some of the evening rises have been well worth targeting. The Bankside Pool has again seen less angling pressure than usual but those who have given it a try have generally been rewarded. Visiting angler Tam Duncan had an incredible day returning twenty-nine fish taken on a variety of patterns. Frank Sherriff also got tactics right and released twelve fish taken mainly on Buzzers and Dries. Powerbait again ruled as best bait on the Woodside Pool (any legal method), resulting in some healthy returns. The Clarks landed ten fish for a total weight of 18lbs 8oz, the Gilchrists took eight for 16lbs 8oz, the McPhersons landed nine for 15.50lbs; the Thompsons weighed in eight fish for 15lbs and the Nelson group had eight fish for a total of 14lbs 8oz.
3. MARKLE (East Lothian) it was a very quiet week with few venturing out but those who did had some decent sport. Jim Irwin from Tranent took 6 on a Black CDC, B Laing, Edinburgh, 6 on a Diawl Bach, B Jones, Edinburgh, 5 on a Bloodworm and Joe Beattie from Edinburgh had 4 on a Black & Green Rabbit.
4. ORCHILL LOCH (Braco) It has been a good week with anglers catching fish on dries, with a bit of bright colour and a sparkle to attract the fish away from the natural feeding. Kenny Low from Stirling caught 2 fish for 11lvbs – best 8lbs on Buzzers, Jim Linton, Moodiesburn, 4 for 12lbs 8oz – best 5lbs on a Wotsit, Harry Graham, Glenrothes, 3 for 14lbs on an Okey Dokey, Ian Wilkie, Auchterarder, a 6lb blue on a Hot Head Damsel and David Pitcaithly from Falkirk used an Okey Dokey to take a brace weighing 8lbs. 5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) There was some excellent fishing last week with conditions continuing to improve as the week progressed. The fish were mostly in the top 2 feet of the water even on the sunny days and were looking for something to chase. Although they were getting taken all round the main pond, there were times when the boats, the island and the dam area were doing better than other parts. A wide variety of trout were landed including Browns, Tigers, Blues, Light Blues, Golds and Greens, as well as the more usual top quality Rainbows. A good number of the bigger fish were moving around and a few 6-7 pounders figure in the catch returns. A good number of anglers chose to take sporting tickets this week and had a lot of great sport, particularly in the small ponds. Best results this week were on a wide variety of small lures or nymphs stripped back just below the surface. Favourite patterns included Hot-head Damsel, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Cormorant, Buzzer and Diawl Bach, with Kate McLaren, Bibio, and Spider also taking fish.
Willie Nyguist, Stirling, 4 for 15lb 2oz including 7lb 2oz Rainbow, Danny Doherty, Denny, 5 for 17lb including 7lb Rainbow, Ian Robertson, Stirling, fishing on three consecutive days, 6lb 8oz Rainbow plus another 22 C&R, Andy Tervit, Paisley, 6lb Rainbow and John Dreczkowski, Bridge of Allan, 5 for 13lb plus 1 C&R from the boat.
