 2. FORBES OF KINGENNIE (Broughty Ferry) Although water-levels in the ponds have been slightly on the low side this has not detracted from the fishing returns. The Boathouse Pool has again fished well with most of the better catches being taken on smaller flies including Shipman’s, Yellow Owl and various buzzer patterns. Lures have also played a part with Yellow Dancer and several Damsel patterns being the pick of the bunch. Mr. Williams took four rainbows for 14lbs on Buzzers including one at 6lbs and Mr. Brown had two fish for 6lbs. On the catch and release option Mr. Muir returned six fish including a brown trout estimated at 6lbs. Meanwhile, Mr. Rennie returned twelve fish including an excellent brown of 5lbs as well as a blue of the same weight. There were some excellent results on the Burnside Pool with Dries and Buzzers fished on the “washing line” method. Mr. Watson released sixteen and Messrs. Thomson and Westland had twenty-one and twenty-six respectively. Mr. Gibson took four fish for 10lbs and returned a further 7. The Bankside Pool has again received little attention as there has been ongoing weed removal coupled with low water-levels. However, Mr. Delaney returned seven on various dry patterns whilst Mr. Glendenning returned six taken on hoppers and buzzers. Powerbait has again proved the prime bait in the Woodside Pool (any legal method) although Mepps type spinners have also accounted for some decent fish. Pride of place goes to Dave from Kirriemuir who caught two for 6lbs 8oz including a superb rainbow weighing 4lbs 8oz.50lbs, Max took five rainbows for a total weight of 8lbs 8oz and Raj had an excellent catch of eight fish for 15lbs. The Andersons also did extremely well weighing in eight fish for 14lbs.

5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) Despite the rain on Friday the water remained clear and fresh all week and conditions for fishing continue to improve.   Plenty of Goldies and Light Blues are being seen, targeted and landed particularly in the small ponds.  These colourful fish are giving anglers a lot of great sport as they really show up in the clear water.   Most fish have been in the top 2 feet of the water and are well spread out round the main pond, although at sometimes there were hotspots at the dam and on the front of the island.   Small nymphs and wet flies were doing best with dry flies also successful, particularly on the small ponds.   Favourite patterns included Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer, PTN, Cormorant, Bibio, Kate McLaren, Spider and Daddy Long Legs.   Some anglers managed to tempt fish with small lures such as Ally McCoist and Ace of Spades, fished just under the surface on a fairly fast retrieve. The new Fishermen’s Hut beside the boat jetty, which has been built to replace the old slightly dilapidated hut, is now finished and open for use as a very pleasant place to sit and look out over the pond whilst enjoying a break from fishing, or sheltering from the weather. As the evenings get ever shorter, the Fishery is now closing at 9.00pm every night.
George Kochanek, Tullibody, took the biggest fish of the week in his bag of 4 for 15lb 4oz including 10lb Rainbow from Swanswater and a Gold and a Light Blue from the Meadow Pond, Peter Hart and Alan Beattie, fishing with Clelland Miners had 5 for 13lb 12oz and 5 for 13lb respectively and Frank Barr, Falkirk, 5 for 13lb 8oz including 2 Gold plus 2 C&R from the boat. Batchelor, Perth, 1 for 2lbs and lost a fish estimated to be in double figures, J. Duncan  Perth  3 for 11lb, Allan Harvey, Inveraray, 3 for 12lbs, Mr. Murray, Glasgow, 7 on C+R and Mr Kane from Bellshill had 3 on C+R including 1 at 4lbs 8oz.
