5. SWANSWATER (Stirling) More changeable weather led to more changeable fishing conditions this week with those adapting their tactics as the day progressed faring better than those who stuck to one method. The fish were well spread out round the ponds and mostly to be found in the top 2 to 3 feet. Many anglers were reporting a lot of action including follows and bumps which did not translate into fish on the bank.At times the fish were quite fussy about what they were taking and those anglers working hard retrieving small lures and nymphs were having more success attracting them than those fishing static or with a very slow retrieve.Early in the day a few browns and tigers were to be found sheltering under the big tree just along from the dam and were being attracted to small wet flies.Favourite patterns this week included Ace of Spades, Dancer, Diawl Bach, Damsel, Cormorant, Snatcher, Kate McLaren and Bibio. In the evenings dry flies were taking fish especially on the small ponds. The Fishery is now open from 8.00am to 10.00pm every day.
